« on: May 30, 2009, 09:42:43 PM »
i have a 15 pound label drill emerald and a 15 pound label drill nugget . The nugget is at 2000 abralon with light polish works great . Emerald is at 4000 with polish which skates on the oil too much . What surface would be advised for the emerald . So is has more bite in oil . The nugget seems to get up easier . Thanks for your help
emerald is drilled label.............i figure the c2 core would be stronger than the nuggets c core

If the nugget you speak of is the Lane#1 Golden Nugget, then at 2000 grit Abralon + light polish, it would/should still be more aggressive than the Emerald Buzzsaw at 2000 Abralon + polish. (Because the nugget is an old fashioned Brunswick particle {read very hard} embedded in PK17 pearl cover).

Depending on how "skiddy" the Emerald is at 4000 grit Abralon for you, the next step down is 2000 grit Abralon (+polish. FYI I'd try to make sure you were using a non-abrasive polish to insure you don't change the underlying grit level of the ball. Valentino's Snake Oil or Brunswick High Gloss factory finish polish are 2 good choices. ).

If that is still is too skiddy, the next logical choice is 800 grit US (~1600 grit Abralon, which is FEPA standard. There is no 1600 grit Abralon pad) is the Scotch Brite light grey pad (+ polish).

Good luck.

Does anyone know what the original oob surface is on the nugget.  I have one that I would like to resurface (1st time) and I liked the way it rolled when new.  Thanks.

as far as the Gold Nugget goes.

Emerald, again most Brunswick stuff came from factory at 400 GRIT with POLISH

The Emerald Buzzsaw used the N-Control pearl resin coverstock from Brunswick. This cover is one of the best performing light condition covers EVER made by any manufacturer.

BuzzHEad is correct....95% of the balls Brunswick made for Lane 1 were finished at 400 grit then some original formulation of Rough Buff followed by polish to get the box finish.

Doug, the one I bought from you that time was perfect from the git-go. I don't recall what grit you sanded it to that time, but if I recall, you sanded it, then used Track Clean & Sheen on it and then polished it with something.

I think you are right Brick....I always used CLean N Sheen to get the sanding lines out of the ball without going to a finer grit sandpaper/Abralon pad.

Clean N Sheen is no longer in production but Resurrection from Valentino Bowling Supply is almost the same stuff. I like Resurrection a lot.

Yes......the oler coverstocks were never made to be given that fine of a finish.

I'd go with a 400 grit finish, a smoothing agent (like Clean N Sheen or Resurrection)and a light polish then adjust from there. GO with a finer grit or a heavier coat of polish to achieve the length and backend you are looking for.

I have my Emerald at 2k Abralon and polish.  Works like a charm.

It gets down the lane enough with the polish but yet still bites hard enough to come back to the pocket at 2k.
