Just some rambling that may/may not have any impact upon your life.
"Did I just turn my Emerald into a Blueberry?"
Well, not really but....Been throwing the Emerald for a bit and have been disappointed so far. Seemed pretty weak and condition/line specific. Never really liked pearls so I was ready to chalk this one up to the bad decision category. "How about a surface adjustment before I throw it into the Susquehanna." With a bit of advice from our man charlest, I hit it with a green Scotch-Brite pad. Well, thats all it took. EmeraldBerry C/2. LOL! On a fresh pattern, this ball has a huge break at the back. I cant believe how much stronger it is. I like the earlier friction. Able to open up the line more and control it sooo much mooore! Just like the Blueberry excepting that I start a good three boards left of the BB starting point. Oh yeah, this bit doesnt exactly end all cheery. As happy as I am with the ball on the fresh, the new surface prep didnt do much for a spotty carrydown shot. It does move sooner but it is still a weak reaction. Pretty much gotta point it at the pocket and hope it carries. Oh well, cant have it all. I can see myself wreaking havoc with the EmeraldBerry C2 but cant forget that it is still a condition specific ball and needs to be put away when the time is right(unlike the glorious but discontinued Blueberry Buzzsaw). Questions, comments, topic hi-jack? LOL! Good day.

Curly, maybe the layout on this particular ball is not the right layout or maybe the ball simply isn't meant for you. I know that my layout is different than yours. For example, I love my Emerald and it is the first ball out of my bag whereas yours isn't for you.......Then, you love your Blueberry(s) and I don't know if they are the first one(s) out of your bag or not, but I am not fond of my Blueberry and it is almost the last ball out of my bag.......

Then again, maybe it is the difference in conditions you and I play on. My Blueberry revs good, hooks good, appears to hit the pocket good, but it doesn't carry good.....It is a "10 Pin City" ball 90% of the time regardless of where I try standing and "7 Pin City" the other 10%.....In a 3 game series with my Emerald, I doubt that I leave more than 3 or 4 10 Pins a day. For example, with my Blueberry, I left nine 10 Pins in 2 games Thursday, switched to my Emerald the 3rd game and didn't leave a single 10 Pin.

It wasn't just Thursday this happened with the Blueberry, it happens every time I get it out of the bag.

Brick, howz about swapping a mint(excepting for the light surface scuff) Emerald for that Blueberry of yours? LOL! The Blueberry(s) are the only thing in my bag. Also LOL! Man its late. GTG! I will get back to ya. LOL!......umm, I am sorta serious about that swapping thing.

Mr. Buzzsaw, just a suggestion, you might want to bring back the Blueberry, just a thought.

The Emerald, as a pearl, is going to have less of a range of utility across oil patterns thana solid will. You can scuff up a pearl to a certain degree as Curly learned, but you usually do not want to scuff a pearl too far. That will cause it to grab the lane too early.

A solid's cover can be modified more easily to handle a wider range of oil (in my opinion, which may or may not be worth anything these days).

I have to believe that discontinuing the Blueberry, having been Lane#1 most generic ball, that is, it covered the widest range of oil patterns and bowlers' styles, was a major mistake on Lane#1's part. They have large range of balls, but each one of their currently available balls covers too small a range of conditions.

PROPOSAL:
Since they've had the pink raspberry, the black raspberry, the blueberry and the cranberry, maybe the need to resurrect the PK18 or the newer Brunswick Activator coverstock as a solid resin over the C2 core and call it the Blackberry.

Until a Blueberry replacement arrives, you might want to try a Visionary Blue Gryphon. I can't guarantee it will work exactly as a BB, but I suspect it would not be far off. Drill it as you drilled your BB; its surface is easily adjustable. It's not cheap, but it's not a rip-off either. It's worth a shot, but Lane#1 could come out with a BLACKBERRY tomorrow. Who knows? Life's a crap-shoot anyway.

From what I've seen and heard (haven't thrown one myself), the Blue Gryphon would be much more flippy than the Blueberry. All the descriptions have it between hard arc and pure snap. Like I said, no personal experience, just a potential warning.

I also thought that providing the BlueBerry with a high gloss finish was a big mistake. In that state, it was susceptible to being a skid/flip solid, which is not a good thing. Thus, it is not too far removed from the base reaction of the Blue Gryphon. FOr many people, I also suspect that both balls need, nay, almost require some of that polish be removed. These days TRUE medium oil patterns can be fraught with peril.

Most definitely. I do run across conditions that warrant a pearl(hence the Emerald purchase) but I really prefer solid resin. The drill is a 3by5 with CG on the center-line. I like this drill. Seems to work the best in my hand so I try to stay with it. Dont see myself changing it. Tried those CG out drills that I see recommended a lot. Wasnt impressed. I wish I knew what the big fuss was/is all about. LOL! Worked with it some more(on the spotty carrydown shot). Found a nice line on the outside, up the dry. Line seemed to carry well but I have to speed it up. Man, that tires me out fast! Should have gone with a 14lb.. LOL!

Thanks charlest, maybe someday I will try the VBG. I have a NIB Monster Smash/r waiting to get punched. I like the look of this ball a lot. Seen a few people throw them and was very impressed. Dare I say a weaker version of the BB? Well, time will tell. I feel good about it cause its PK18. Maybe someday they will make another C/2 core wrapped in solid PK18. A true Christmas miracle that would be. As great as the ball is/was, probably didnt have enough shock value. Gotta be easier marketing a flashy, hook monster, "oooh look what this can do" ball. I am also sure there is more profit in selling someone three different balls that do what one BB does. Oh well, thats capitalism and my opinion. Its all good. Thanks for the replies.

I would not say that at all, but then what do I know? Actually I think the Smash/R is safer bet than the Blue Gryphon, but the BG is so much more interesting. FYI did you know that the SmashR was half solid resin and half pearl resin?? (That info is directly from Brunswick, BTW.)

Well, I didnt say how much weaker.

LOL! That may be(have been) a stretch. Time will tell. Personally, I think it will fit its intended use very well. Thanks for the merry x wish. Hope you have a good one as well.
