This question is aimed at the pro shop operators that layout and drill mostly Lane #1 equipment.

The layout sheets that Lane #1 has online mention an enhanced reaction when the ending CG falls on the pin, pre drilled CG, or on the rotational plane that contains the pin and CG.

Do you guys spend a lot of time worrying about this type of layout? Does it really make that remarkable of a difference in your mind?

J-Mac...the reason the reaction is enhanced is because when the cg ends up in those locations there is one less force counteracting the dynamic reaction of the core.

I drilled a pin in (out 1/2"), low top weight (1.2 oz) Blueberry Buzzsaw awhile back and I laid it out pin axis.

I was shocked at the reaction I obtained form this drilling. I was expecting a very smooth rolling ball that arced into the pocket. That's not what I got at all....the ball was an absolute animal. Yes the ball did travel the first 45 feet very smoothly and cleared the heads and pines very easily...but the backend..WOW!!! I was shocked at how hard hte ball turned the corner. When I asked the gurus at Lane 1 they tols me that it was due to the after drilling cg ending on the pin and at my PAP.

So yes I guess it does matter but the only way to truly predict it and make it happen is to spend the $$$ on the GBS system Lane 1 sells. It rells you how to predict where the cg will end and such. I don;t have it myself but I have seen the paperwork and it is probably worth the $$$ for bigger shops who do the volume to justify it.

Doug, do you think this idea can translate to equipment outside Lane #1? I know my driller prefers balls that have no positive or negative weight imbalances. How does L#1 "method" differ from the target weight system that Mo Pinel utilizes?

Mo's target weighting system is designed to remove the proper ratio of finger/side weight to provide optimum reaction.

The GBS system focuses on placing the cg and weightholes in proper locations to achieve the maximum effectiveness from the core orientation in the ball.

Perhaps Mr Buzzsaw can chime in here and enlighten us some more?? I'll call Richie tomorrow and see if he can add in a few comments to help out.

But would using the TW system make it easier to slowly remove positive side weight until the ending CG fell along the appropriate line?

My gut feeling says yes but tehn again you may lose the ehanced part of the drilling unless the weighthole is placed appropriately.

I have asked Richie to chime in on this one so maybe he can shed some light on it.....

3 3/4" x 4 1/2" layout, hole is 6 3/4" from the pin taking it back to about 1/2 oz. PW.
