Enriched Uranium - Help with Layout
« on: January 17, 2008, 06:00:06 AM »
I recently purchased an Enriched Uranium 15.03, 3.5 oz top weight and a 3.5 inch pin and was looking to drill it up for control. I have little experience with layouts, less with Lane #1, and none with this ball. I was hoping to get some suggestions from some of you who are more knowledgeable about this ball and layouts in general.  My specs are:
PAP: 5 1/2 over and 1 up
Rev''s: 300
17 mph
Axis rotation: 75 degrees
Axis tilt: ~30 to 35 degrees
My home lanes have been sold and will be closing so I am unable to tell you what lane conditions I will be using. Most of the houses around here are medium to less than medium. So I guess I'm looking at what might be used as a versatile layout for medium conditions.. I was thinking 4.5 x 3 with the pin above and to the right of the fingers- or will that hook and set?
Thanks in advance.

Spoon, all drillings depend on a person's style and the conditions they play on. Now with that being said, I have mine drilled with the Pin under RF and CG out and no weight hole. With yours having 3.5 oz top weight, you may require a weight hole. From what I have read in this forum, it appears that more people have the best success with a drilling in this area of Pin under RF or Bridge and CG out on the EU. I've had mine for over a year and it is still going strong along with my Solid Cobalt Bomb.

Just be sure before drilling it that your driller checks the CG to see if it is properly marked as these balls were made by Brunswick and many had improper CG markings. My EU's CG was only mismarked by 1/2". However my Solid Cobalt's CG was mismarked by over 3" and Lane 1 replaced it.

Well I have the Enriched Uranium and the first thing I noticed was that its reaction is very unique. It doesnt move like other balls I've ever seen. Check the videos of the lane1 site and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Well I first started with a pin under the bridge type drilling, CG kicked out and the ball either hooked too much inside, or never turned from outside, even on a regular shot. It burned up when swinging and never came back with enough energy to carry corners. I polished it up, sanded, tried many different surfaces and still did not find one I was happy with.

I redrilled the ball with the pin about an inch over my ring, roughly 5 1/2" away from my pap. Now the ball gets down the lane better, holds better inside and turns harder from outside. Much more controllable and the pin carry is just sick when it matches up. So if you try a stronger drilling and you get a weird type reaction, try a weaker one.
