Expert Suggestions Please: 2 Ball Drilling
« on: July 13, 2005, 03:59:56 AM »
i have a Uranium Pearl (2" Pin 3.2 Top) and an H2O (2.5" Pin 3.0 Top)
i want them to be complimentary.

when the uranium gets jumpy and things break down i want to bring out the H2O to finish the set.

i also have an original inferno for heavier oil (4" Pin 3.3 Top)
its drilled up stacked over ring finger.

so the 3 ball order of use heavy to light oil could be:
Inferno->Uranium->H2O

i hear everyone loves label drills on the diamond cores.
would it be crazy to drill them both the same?
originally i was thinking stacked drill for Uranium and label for H2O.
(Still waiting for USBC to make up its mind on CG distance rule)

i probably should mention also that i typically line up with my left foot 1 board to the right of the center dot and shoot between 2nd-3rd arrow.
this is the 1st shot i throw, and adjust from there.

i want the uranium to be the 1st ball out of the bag, and be able to judge whats going on with the lanes, and adjust with it or grab the inferno for more oil or the H2O for less oil.

i'm not a big banana hooker, but also not straight up and in.
i get a good amount of revolutions on the ball, and able to change wrist positions to change the roll/reaction of the ball. (i think that means my PAP changes)

to answer your question about the nugget locator on the H2O, if the CG and PIN are straight up 12:00 the locator is to the left of center.
so technically it could be drilled stacked or label and have the locator left of the thumb.

i plan to bowl on synthetics this year, i open bowled last night on synthetics with my danger zone black, drilled with CG kick out pin right of ring & with flare reducting x-hole, after a league just finished and the carry down absolutely killed me, i was hitting solid shots and left a couple of 8-10's when i forward rolled it to the pocket flush, i dont know if carry down happens more frequently on synthetics than wood but, ive never had to put so many revs on a ball and just watch it keep spinning in line to the pocket and barely move the whole way down like that before. (and ive been bowling for 15+ years)

ive never bowled a whole season on synthetics, so maybe that will make a difference on how i get the ball drilled. im switching cause wood was chewing up my equipment.

maybe more suggestions based on what mentioned?

    thanks!

i was considering this ball as a reader due to the "Ultra Low RG Core"
which tend to roll earlier than high RG balls.

my pro shop guy is literally a pro, well retired at least, Kenny Hall.
he knows my game pretty well and has never disappointed me.
Charges higher than average fees for drilling, but ill pay for getting it right.
ive heard alot of horror stories of people that pay $10 for a cheap drill and get bloody stumps as a result.

Kenny knows about lane #1 and i figured i'd see what all the hype is about.

i'll probably love them, and most likely not buy another for a while.
i have a bunch of undrilled balls and my girlfriend would kill me if i bought another one this decade.

i want to get these 2 balls drilled up right the first time, thats why im asking all the questions.

i cant say i have a ball layout with the pin near the midline.
closest to the midline is my combat zone tracer and the pin is to the right of ring finger and slightly below it.
the reaction of that ball is sweet, and hits like an 18 wheeler

maybe your potential layout for the Uranium will give me a different look.
im going to get both of them drilled up after the USBC makes a ruling.

    anyone else have suggestions?

megamav, your Uranium pearl may hook a bit more/roll up a bit sooner than your Inferno. I would go with the pin stacked under the ring w ith this ball.

The H2O will work good with a label, 1:00-1:30 layout. You'll get more length with a nice backend. Good luck with these 2 balls. =:^D

thank you, i appreciate the posts, i think im going to talk to my driller about the layouts that T-GOD suggested.

my inferno with the 4" pin turns pretty early still, even though it is a pearlized ball.

do you guys know the RG average on these 2 balls?
i know the inferno is 2.6, which is pretty low i think.

also, im thinkin about trying to find my positive axis point tonight.
do you guys know how to find it using the piece of white tape method?

megamav, when you put the piece of white tape on the ball, you want it to be perfectly still, at first, in the first few feet of the lane. It will start to wobble after that. =:^D
