Being Brunswick poured I bet they are both 400 grit and then Brunswick High Gloss polish.

Was there any doubt?

Nah. I think it was because the original poster wasn't aware of Brunswick's process, annd maybe not that the ball were manufactured by Brunswick.

????
Are you saying these were sanded to 4000 grit and then polished?

I really doubt it because I know from experience that if you sand at too high of a number and use High Gloss, the ball will skate near 60 feet. Even with the XXL being urethane, I bet Brunswick still did the 400/High Gloss setup.

I do also. I just want to be sure what Roy is trying to say.

I honestly don't know what grit it is oob . . .

Mine is prepared at 4k grit with no polish and it works well for me.

The 400 grit you guys talk about, is that wet sanded?

Yes.
The original poster wanted to know the stock surface. Being Brunswick pearls, the "Stock" reply is that Brunswick used to normally sand them with 400 grit (US/CAMI grade) wet/dry sandpaper and then apply a strong coating of their High Gloss Factory Finish polish. That polish is abrasive, so the final grit level was much smoother, somehwere in the neighborhood of 1500/2000 grit polished, equivalent to the finish most other companies's pearlized balls.
