How do you like the reaction? What drill layout?

Does anyone know how it compares to the Columbia Scout High Flare urethane?

I have one and went with a basic Label 1:30 drill. That put the pin about 3.75" from my PAP directly right of my ring finger. CG is near the grip center, but shifted slightly to the right to keep positive side weight.

The ball is much stronger than I was anticipating. I was hoping for something to use on our medium THS with dry outside boards. Resin is too touchy when it hits the dry. Plastic has been working very well for me, but I was hoping for something in between. The Liberator hits the dry, flips hard, then flattens out on the backend.

I am going to play with the surface on this ball a bit and try it on some different lane conditions. We'll see what happens then.

On a more serious note. I had thought about buying one, so did a little research on it (and read as much as I can). Although I don't have one, from what I have read, it seems as though the ball is fairly strong (at least in box condition) for a urethane and is going to need some oil to get down the lane. I havne't read where it takes polish all that well (urethane's can be tough sometimes) so I'm not sure how well it would actually perform on real dry/burnt lanes. I would see this ball working well on a fresh lighter-medium oil league shot (but then again there are about 20 balls that will do the same)... probably more control that the milder resin balls though.

I had a bowler throwing a pealized Cherry Bomb, roll a 300 game against me in the first game.

In the 2nd and 3rd games we all moved inside to take advantage of the oil, and I throwing a Saturn, (which had given me good carry the first game)suddenly got tapped to death. Whereas my opponent, throwing his Liberator, did not have to move as deep as I, and basically coasted to two, 200+ games.

From what I saw, it looks to be a very consistent piece, much stronger than advertised, but it carries very well on the lite oil shot. We were bowling on synthetics. Lite oil to start.

All bowling balls needs some type of oil to work well unless it's a plastic ball. Urethane will roll early on drier conditions but be really tame on the backends. If lanes are so toasted that urethane hooks too much then a plastic spare ball becomes the strike ball.

I can see this ball working very well on broken down short patterns that have big time overreacting backends. I currently have a scout high flare urethane and it's money in the bank on short toasted patterns. It really needs dry backends to recover when sending it wide. Most of the time it's great just using a straight down and in line.

I like that Lane 1 came out with this piece. There's still a need for urethane balls on some of the tougher patterns i've faced. Urethane also comes in handy at tourney's.

I have 2 Liberators and I has the hi flare urethane scout. No comparison. The Lane 1 carries and reads the lane much better. It is work to get a shine on it, but the effort is worth it.

My Liberator has a 1" pin with 3.75oz top weight. I drilled it 4x4 (pin below the ring with the CG right below it, no 4th hole). OOB finish. This ball is a smooth performer. I threw it on fresh THS 42ft ProAnvils. It has a very controlled arc and hits with authority. No over or under with this ball. Very predictable and will always have a place in my bag.

I totally feel there's a need for urethane balls with high end cores. For those that have bowled on some short, flat patterns, will understand where i'm coming from.

I drilled mine 4x4 pin under the ring mainly because mine came with only a 1" pin. I usually prefer 4.5x3 cg out types of drillings or even 3.5x3.5 stacked. The Liberator performs well on a THS for me with that layout.

I was thinking of just using a 4.5" above and right of the ring and CG kicked out a little bit but no balance hole. I'm mainly buying this ball for tough patterns I see at my league and for tourney play. I'm not buying this ball for typical walled up house patterns but could use it for those as well.

I also currently have a Scout high flare urethane that works really well but has a pancake core with a flip block. This ball does hit pretty effing hard and carry's great, which was a huge surprise to me. I just think the urethane cover and high end core of the LIBERATOR is a unique ball to have and can get a lot of use on tough patterns.
