Tsunami question
« on: December 19, 2005, 01:18:17 AM »
Hey All,
I think I may have a problem with my Tsunami.  The other night I was bowling and felt something like a pebble in my ring finger hole.  When I went to check it out I noticed a small hole about a 1/16 of an inch round.  I was able to stick a coffee stirer most of the way in before I had to pull it out (afraid to lose it in there)  I was wondering what I should do about this.  Is it a ball defect.  I know if it is my driller (Doug Sterner) and Lane 1 will make good.  But I am just concerned I really love this ball.

Hope you can help,
Tom

You mean, the ball is hollow? I had a "bubble" in a thumb hole once in a Trauma, but it was just the size of a bean and did not represent a recation or integrity threat. A thumb slug fixed it.

But in your case I'd think that the ball has a severe procuction damage. Either the core was not properly ptroduced in the first place or the molding process did not turn out right. Such a big space inside the ball will also influence ball reaction, I am sure, and nobody will know how this hollow space/crag will develop through game play in the long run?

I'd either ask your pro shop or directly Lane#1.

Its probably just a void in the ball and they are common several of my buzzsaws have them or have had them.  I am guessing you don't use grips?  Because obviously with mine the grips cover them up.  Also is it near the pin at all?

Actually I do use grips, the hole is right where the wall of the finger hole and the bottom meet.  No the pin is no where near the finger holes.  But thank you.

Tommymo,

You have a few options here. One can be to ask your driller to drizzle some clear ball plug in the void to fill it, but you have to re-check your static weights after filling it to be sure.

Two you can take pictures of it and send them to Lane #1 and ask what they can do for you, but you do love the ball.

Three would be to just keep the ball the way it is and only fix it if it gets worse, then go to Lane #1 if it does get worse.

Just my take on the matter, if you like it then do nothing until it gets worse. IMHO

JR is "right on" here. I previously had 5 Saws and 4 of them had this hole. I have talked to others that have Saws and some of them have seen the same thing, so I am guessing it may be fairly common on Saws. It is only an air pocket and doesn't hurt anything. You can leave it or do as SlowHand suggeted by filling that gap. You will see this in other company's balls also although maybe not quite as often. I recently bought a Track Xception 5.0 that had this same type air pocket so it is not unheard of or a rarity.

Bowling balls are not supposed to have voids in them, but I would think that an occasional air pocket would occur.  If the ball is a legal gross weight and is legal in terms of static weights, and you are happy with the ball reaction you get, I'd leave well enough alone.  If you have it replaced, you may never be able to quite duplicate that reaction you like.

Simplest solution, buy another one...it's only money.

The void is from where Big B hangs the core before pouring the filler and coverstock around the ball. I have had several balls like this from several different companies do this around the pin. Some even had a toothpick like piece of wood still in the hole. It is not a defect and by no way will it effect the ball or it's performance.   beans
