What would you do
« on: December 08, 2005, 01:01:15 AM »
What would you do in this situation.

About 6 months ago I had my XXXL crack in half.  Crack runs from the fingers to the balance hole.

Last weekend, my Pearl bomb cracked the same way.

Bear in mind I have gotten years, hundreds of games, and multiple honor scores from both balls.  In other words, no complaints.

Just in case there may be production problems I let Ritchie know what happened.

Of course, knowing Ritchie and the great folks at Lane 1, they said simply send them back and they would replace them.

Morally, I'm kind of up in the air.  I never subjected the balls to any extreme temp changes (ie, baking, leaving them in the car, etc).  I'm not really able to come up with any reason they cracked.

On the other hand, the balls aren't designed to last forever, maybe I just finally wore them out.

While funds are really tight and I can't really afford new equipment, I just feel I would be taking advantage of Ritchie by sending the balls back to him.

What would you do.

SrKegler,

I see where you're coming from. In my opinion, though, you have built up a certain relationship with Ritchie. He knows that you would not try to take advantage of him or the company. If he says send them back, I see no problem with doing so. Consider it a reward for being such a good, loyal customer.

The people at Lane#1 are really good about taking care of those that use their equipment.  Send it back get a new one and throw some scores.

lane #1 stand by their products and although balls do crack, it shows the companies commitment to the customer....they know by taking care of things, it builds a strong core base that keeps buying their equipment,,,i had a black raspberry crack on me and i was nearly in tears as you cannot find a nib one anymore for love nor money!

I kinda know what you mean. But that's what makes Lane#1 who they are. They stand behind their equipment and their Customer's. Most Companies would blame it on something the Customer or driller did before they would take the blame. I would feel somewhat bad or guilty also but I would also be a dedicated Lane#1 fan.

What are they going to replace your Pearl bomb with?

Sr,
I know from reading your posts and replies that you're an honorable man. I also understand your position. Could I also respectfully suggest a phone call and explain your thoughts and see what Lane#1 might suggest to meet you in the middle????
That way you know that they will still be glad to help you,and then you still help defray some of the cost, however you two decide it.
Emails are nice and quick, but good old interaction between two sides of a deal is still the best way to do things.

I want to thank everyone for their suggestions.  I know I'm preaching to the choir when I tell you what a great company Lane 1 is.

After careful consideration, I declined Ritchies offer.  Both balls were at least 3 years old, must have had thousands of games on them.  Nothing lasts forever.  They must have just gotten worn out.  If I had a car breakdown after the warranty ran out I wouldn't expect the manufacturer to repair or replace it.

Same thing applies here.  It must have been something I done to cause the balls to crack.  Just haven't figured out what yet.

In the meantime I still have my Black buzzsaw from 92 that stills scores provided I throw it correctly.
