I think I'm jumping ship
« on: June 05, 2007, 11:53:34 AM »
A few years ago I bowled with Haugen and he was just making the transition from Lane 1 to Visionary.  He told me why and I do remember surprisingly.  But I decided to stay with Lane 1.  I have or had almost every Lane 1 ball manufactured before they started to have Columbia make the bowling balls using Columbia coverstock.   I did buy two G-Forces and they reminded me of why I left Columbia to start with. So, I will not buy anymore Lane 1 bowling balls until I like the company that is making the coverstock.  I thought most of us agreed that the coverstock was the most critical part of the bowling ball so far as reading lanes/ hook potential etc.  Its not just me, but he is losing customers and understandably.

I'm out as for any future Lane 1 bowling balls, unless there is a marketed improvement is the direction of Lane 1.

That was very hard to read.

I'm tired of this I got a secret. I know its not Storm, It might be Visinary, or maybe back to Brunswick

this makes no sense to me .. why do I let "bowlers" bother with my own decision .. I don't care what anyone knows now and more likely "what they think they know" because once lane#1 deal is done, everyone will know .. but till then lane#1 will say nothing that is expected

Ritchie knows what direction he's going in but thinks this is a selling gimic

I have no idea what you mean here .. BigB production NOW is full of fake pinsand Ritchie is too smart not to go back to them .. Columbia was the best decision he made but saddly it got sold to Ebonite .. since then no new ball came out .. (selling gimic!!) ..

anyone can change the bowling company that buys from .. there is no need to make excuses for it to make you feel better ... if at any point I feel lane#1 quality is dropping, I will have no issues switching to another company .. but to me this has not happened yet

The secret is there is no new ball company picking them up and they are selling off all inventory for dirt and going away. A little bridy has told me this let's see if my birdy is wrong on his call.

He says they are running game on there dealers making them believe there is something new going on, when bowl expo is weeks away with no new ball coming out.

You are correct, I should have proof read my article before I left to go bowling. I'll go back to the orginal post try to clean it up.

What Ritchie and Lane 1 is doing to its consumes isn't fair. I am not throwing Columbia products.  I was fair and gave it a try when Lane 1 started to use Columbia coverstocks.  It didn't work out for me.

As for excuses, I need none.  I had confidence in Lane 1 bowling balls and the reason I switched to them orginally was because of the era of TEC Death.  So why would I follow them to Columbia.

Now as for I got a secret, if someone here wants to tell me that several months after Ebonite bought Columbia that Rotchie still hasn't firmed up the direction the company is going, i will be shocked.  Also, did Columbia take Ritchie and Lane 1 by surprise when they sold to Ebonite?  I don't think so.

What do you mean by "Brunswick is full of fake pins..."?

have talked to Ritchie several times myself.  We have an interest we share in motorcycles though I don't think he rides anymore.

I don't think its in Ritchie to walk away from the bowling ball or bowling business, so I don't think Lane 1 is going away.

I just would like to know where they'r going and when they're going to get there before I get my bowling balls for the Fall season.

I know its not Columbia and if it was, then I would say I won't be buying anymore Lane 1 bowling balls.  If they change to another company or pour their own, I will again buy  a couple of Lane 1 bowling balls and test them.  I just want to know where they're going before I order any more Visionary bowling balls for the Fall season.

I am still killing them with the Hybrid Megatons, EU and the SU.  I just got a Blue particle Centaur for heavy oil.

Nicanor: It's OK to chill for awhile and wait to see what's going to happen. You've already bought enough bowling balls over the past few years to fill a distributor's warehouse. Giving Lane#1 a chance to sort out their affairs is not going to make a difference in your bowling life.

I agree that Lane#1 will probably be around for a long time to come. I don't have inside information, but logic says a company as successful as they have been will find a way to keep it going. Have some faith here.
