Anyone drill a Gemstone?
« on: August 03, 2009, 11:06:40 AM »
I'm wondering if anyone drilled a Gemstone.  If you have, how did you drill the ball, and with half a weightblock, how is the pin carry?  Looking for a light/short oil ball that still has enough weightblock for carry.

golfnutFL,

Do you have one in your possession?
If so, what does the coverstock look like? I mean does it appear to be half solid and half pearl? or does it look like something else? It can be hard to tell sometimes.

Mine has a 4 inch pin and it's drilled
Pin in the middle of your bridge cg out 2" statics matter with this core so if
you it to hook set then bring the pin down 1" if you want skid hook 1"
above your bridge if you need a weight hole go from center of grip go
over 6 3/4 over and down 2" put a 25/32 hole in your thumb quad.

I love the drilling it is very predictable   and reads the lanes really well

Why do people keep trying to compare Lane #1 to other equipment.....when there really is no comparison

Best Prices in all of Colorado on Lane #1 equipment....

Nicanor, I wouldn't recomend this ball for short are dryer conditions, unless the proper layout is used. And then to add, maybe the polish taken off of the ball. I drilled 3 up yesterday and got to really throw them alot today in a session with Ron Clifton.

The Gemstones seem somewhat stronger off the spot than my Massacre, and maybe possibly even a 2-3 ft. earlier as well. I practiced alot on a 44 ft. Kegal Pattern with these balls and none seem to check up soon enough to give me te best of looks, although they were definitly playable balls even though the volume of oil was on the high side.

As far as the looks go for some of you guys wondering, it definitly looks like a PEARL! Dont know about the Hybrid coments but ball definitly looks more toward the pearl side.

Nicanor if I were you I would get a Chainsaw, or a Massacre and then you will be set for the lighter stuff. I dont know much about the Chainsaw so I am basing that off the reviews I have read. The Massacre however can be pretty strong to so a good layout will have to be used. Hope this helps, John

John,

Thank you for the reply.  I think its being drilled with the pin near the ring finger cg stacked.  I hope to see and throw it soon and I'll see what they went with for a drilling.  I throw the Virtual Energy a lot with a polished Jolt solid with the pin over the bridge cg kicked slightly right.  So maybe the Gemstone will fit between the Virtual Energy and the Jolt.  Late in the month I'm going to add a Sideways and see if it overlaps any of the bowling balls I currently have.

Thanks again,
