Can someone explain this?
« on: February 16, 2005, 03:49:44 AM »
As many know I'm a big Buzzsaw fan; that's about all that I use.  BUT, for whatever reason I never got along well with the Bomb cores; tried several, didn't like the reaction or carry.  Now comes the big BUT - recently acquired a Super Carbide Bomb (had the original Super Carbide and loved it, wanted to try the SCB on our longish oily shot), and am loving it.  Very predictable, smooths out the huge over reaction that my reactives (principally the Uranium pearl) were giving me on the back ends, and a real rack shredder.  Why am I liking this ball so much more than my Green Bomb or any of the other Bomb core balls?

I think it may well be coverstock, but I did do a drill on it that I've never ever been able to use until my track moved out recently.  Pin below and between fingers, CG out.  Track is about 1/2 inch away from holes (used to be I'd be pinging the ring finger with this layout), so maybe that's it.

Rags not sure but my experience goes like this earlier this year I was using the carbide bomb pearl (purple one) almost exclusively in two leagues loved it couldn't put it down.

Over the summer I was using the carbide bomb a lot in league loved it.  Got a black cherry or so a year ago about this time of year used it at nationals and pot bowling some once I got home I loved it.

Had a cherry bomb pearl this whole time during all these other ones and I hated it, the ball flat out hooked to much in the backend for my liking and I could never find a pattern to use it on.  I know for me at least the cherry bomb pearl with its high flaring mini nuggets and bomb core simply got too much length with its pearl cover and thats why I didn't like it, I beleive for me at least the stronger covers on the bomb cores help them roll earlier more even for my game and thats why I have liked them all except the pearl cherry bomb, perhaps Rags thats what your experiencing with the SCB.

With all that said the new series bombs Ie. Dirty and Hybrid are even better for me the smooth control they have is remarkable, I have since replaced my often used Barbide Bomb Pearl in both leagues with the Dirty Bomb Pearl which i feel with the activator gives me that mild particle pearl nature of my old carbide bomb pearl.  The Hybrid has certainly replaced my need for the black as its is a few boards stronger and much smoother also.

I have a NIB SCB but fear I may never need to drill it unless I go back to nationals I feel I could use it there if the shot was similiar.

I should just quit bowling, oh wait I already tried that.
Now that I am back and my Saws are sharp again, I am ready to cut some wood.

Rags, I'll have to agree with JPR. The Bomb cores are longer in the heads than the Buzzsaw cores, with more backend turn/flip. This added length and stronger off the dry obviously didn't sit well with your Buzzsaw smooth rolling nature that you like.

The stronger cover as well as the CG out, pin under bridge(early/forward roll) layout gives you a smoother reaction with the bomb core, which is closer to the Buzzsaw reaction that you love. =:^D
