gold vs silver
« on: April 19, 2005, 11:38:41 AM »
I've been thinking about a golden nugget. I currently have a blue carbide saw and finished 10th in city tournament with it. Not so good on dry, though. I've read great reviews about the golden nugget; however, my ball driller says it's a piece of s***. I'm lefty, prefer ball that goes long and breaks late, and I'm not a cranker. Any other opinions? Also, would like to get my hands on a silver diamond buzzsaw, pref new. Know where I can find one in 15 lb? Thanx!

Regardless of what the pins are made of, you can still SAW 'Em Up!  Mess with F.O.S. and get CUT like all the rest!!

Both the Silver Diamond and the Golden Nugget will go long and break hard on the backend. In general, the GN will handle slightly more to a full degree more oil than the SD. In box condition the SD is more for medium-light oil, it will go longer and break fairly hard at the backend, depending on how much "hand" you have. The GN will handle medium oil (for the same person, for the same drilling, etc) but will not goes as long nor break as suddenly, although it will still be very strong. The GN having a light load of particles is more towards a control style, as compared to the SD, while many people might drill it to flip and will be surprised at how strong the GN looks. On its own, it may not look like a control ball at all; everything is relative. All said and done, the GN is an incredible pin mover, one of the strongest I have ever seen.

Both covers are very adjustable, although I wouldn't polish either one any more than they are in out-of-the-box condition. The SD uses PK 18 pearl and is easily adjustable, if needs be.

I agree w/ charlest as I had an SD....but mine had a nice low cg and thumb quadrant hole , so mine rolled early and wasn't 'sharp' on the back...it was big....but not sharp...

I was able to use mine into the mediums range quite comfortably...and if there was enough dry....LOOK OUT !

I had a Gold Nugget(see my review for it http://www.ballreviews.com/Reviews/Reviews.asp?ManufacterID=7&BallID=484&ReviewID=21126 )

I wouldn't say it's a monster on the backend.  You can definately tell it's a particle pearl.  Smooth/arcy off the break.  If you want raw strength at the breakpoint I'd look into something reactive or assymetrical.
