i drill it up, i am getting used to it, and about an hour after its maiden voyage down the planks, disaster strikes.

i BARELY catch the outside edge of a 7 pin, it goes into the ed of the gutter and JUMPS up and into the pit. i sickly waited for it to come back, because i knew it had to have gotten chewed up. sure enough, there's a piece of her missing right below the thumb. it isnt HUGE, but its roughly 3/4" long, 1/2" wide and 1/4" deep. luckily for me the manager and i are really cool, i showed him and he let me take the ball home tonight, with a damage sheet, and i can bring it back if i decide to within a week. i couldn't stand the thought of leaving a freshly drilled ball in the house for another week til i can go get it just because of that.

should i even have the pro shop fix it? its not going to hurt my game or anything. it isn't even that unsightly due to the ball coloration. i am really angered by it all.

This is the reason that you should use a spare ball, this can all be avoided and you will have done damage to a $60 ball instead of a 160-200+. I know the pain that goes on when you get a new ball and this happens, as it has happened to me. I had it done on a flash point when it got stuck in the return

I did end up getting the gouges plugged and resurfaced, as I don't like to look at huge gouges. Its all a personal preference as to whether you fix it or not.

And btw, the lane is legally responsible for damage done to your equipment. Even though some have the signs saying they aren't, in all reality, they are liable. They have an obligation to fix any damage done by there machines. Hope it all works out

Once a while this does happen. You are indeed lucky that the house
where you bowl is willing to take the responsibility to repair or replace
your ball. At my place here, a number of bowling centres just display signs
stating that they are not responsible for any damage to a bowler's ball
even if they have lousy, crappy second hand bowling machines operating..
I am bowling at my own risk in these places. The most thing they can do is
just offering to repair any damage to a bowling ball whether a light one
or a very heavily damaged for free. Looks like they are only operating for profit and simply doesn't care for customer's satisfaction. This is the very opposite of the situation you are experiencing.
