Good intro ball for Lane #1?
« on: July 18, 2007, 04:42:01 AM »
For a while now ive been thinking of giving lane 1 a shot. From watching the videos on the site/seeing people raving about it, I've wanted to give them a shot. My storm ball just isnt reacting the way it used to. I've been thinking of getting the Hybrid dirty bomb. My usual center is med-med/heavy ths. Is this the right starter ball? Anyone have any suggestions or personal favorites they think i should start off with that might impress me?

since the HDB is out of production, I would look at the g force nebula, or if truely heavier go with the g force solid, both can be had at great prices right now, i have a hdb and i use it for strictly med oil

on edit, I have a used single drill nebula with less then 10 games 80.00 shipped
or i may let my hdb with thumb moved once go for 60.00 shipped

My favourite still is and will always be the Tsunami... a true versatile ball.

But it is all about midlane... don't expect a skid flip.

The nebula is particle... Tsunami is Solid reactive...

Another possible intro ball is the Cobalt pearl as strong as the Tsunami (says Bowling this month) but more about Backend

In my opinion, if you want to give a try to lane 1, the best first one is the original Uranium. Very forgiving ball, easy to use but perhaps a little hard to find (discontinued).

The Tsunami hands down.  It is a very consistant and controllable ball.  I'd stay away from the HDB, I've read allot of love or hate it reviews on it.  And if your wanting to try one of the most expensive (even though I've found that Lanemaster is now more expensive) balls on the market I wouldn't want to take that risk for my first try.

Try the G Force SOlid....a competent driller can make that ball work on anything from medium light to heavy with drill pattern and surface prep.

A few balls I would recommend is the solid uranium, both cobalt solid and pearl, carbide plus. This few are the ones that really worked for me...

Go with the Solid Uranium.  Yep, me pimping this ball again.  Especially if you are on the medium-heavy, it is great.  I like this choice because it is one of the more "pure" Buzzsaw diamond cores.  Heavier density, but no nuggets, bombs, or flip blocks.

One of the best cover (Activator Solid)/core matchups ever, IMO.  Satisfies the Buzzsaw purist in me.

Dirty Bomb imho is one of those balls that need to be controlled good or else something bad will happen or as someone else told me as I asked how to drill a DB (freely quoted...don't know the exact words anymore):
"Drill it strong [cause a weak drilling won't do with this ball] but be prepared to shoot a lot of spares if you miss your target. If you hit it this ball's a monster in the pins"

I would agree to go with the solid uranium. It has the diamond core & if the ball is too strong for your house you can polish it. The cover is very versitile & easy to change desired reaction. The pearl uranium is a great ball for medium THS, but is getting hard to find.

If you are on a medium-heavy, you will like the G-force Nebula or the Solid Uranium. Given similar drilling and clean backs, the Nebula will be a little sharper off the break. The Soild-U is earlier and smoother (traditional Lane #1 roll). The Solid-U may be the more versatile of the two, but I actually prefer the Nebula in most cases on the heavier THS. I go to the Solid-U on toughr conditions (more predictable).
