SBA tournament in Montgomery, Ala., today. Used mostly Lane #1 gear today so I figured I'd post it here.

Ever bowled in a bowling alley with a fritzed-up air conditioner when the outside temps were 95 degrees F with 65% humidity? Welcome to Alabama. The building had three A/C units, of which one was functioning.

I'll blog this for anyone who cares to get the details, like I did for state tournament earlier in the year, but suffice to say 1111 for six games isn't going to cash. One game over 200. The only good point was I went 15-for-15 on 10-pins. I have never been 100 percent, ever, in my life when I've left eight or more of them (thanks, XXXL Starburst).

Weird day on the lanes -- ball choices actually got more surface-aggressive as the day went along. Going weak wasn't the answer. Started with particle pearl (old Gold Nugget), spent most of the day with a BuzzBomb/R and finished with a 900Global Break S-75 and an AMF Clutch Pearl. Six people on our pair, and aside from one person rolling 761 handicap in singles off a 172 average, it was rough. Best doubles score on the pair was around 1150.

That's probably the most physically uncomfortable I've ever been in my life while bowling with the A/C in the shape it was in. Too late to get any tips before tomorrow's team event across town, but let's hope it's better than this trainwreck.

I wish we'd rotated lanes. We actually started on the breakdown pair because the pair we were supposed to use was out of service. I don't think it made much difference, but the right lane on our pair kept putting down horrible racks all day. The lane conditions were mostly the same.

Also forgot to mention we were on a high-volume shot. I had a Hybrid Dirty Bomb with me, threw it once as an experiment straight up 5 and hit the 6-pin. I saw a lot of people shaking their heads up and down the place.

Bowling and sweating do not belong together. Bowling outside is another bad idea. Bowling indoors when it is out and humid indoors SUCKS!!!! Most bowlers feel your pain.

Team event today in the other center. Rolled an AMF Clutch Pearl for the first two games and finished with a Chainsaw. Much easier shot (and much better air conditioning) but I really stunk at repeating shots. Missed a couple of 10-pins today and had a couple of big splits, but everything else was pretty much a failure to string strikes.

Maybe If you use a real ball like storm or Ebonite you might do better?

Please tell me you don''t think Ebonite or Storm are the only "real" balls. Please don''t tell me that.

I''ve got equipment from every manufacturer. The notion that any of them are head-and-shoulders above (or below) any other is pure fallacy. It''s all about matchups. Some people can''t hit the broad side of Texas with an Ebonite ball. Meanwhile, the two guys leading scratch doubles as of this weekend were both throwing Lane #1.

And the reason I struggled at this particular tournament was that I threw the ball like ****. On Saturday I had a little bit of help from the 85-degree, high-humidity, no-A/C heat that kept making my thumb exit unpredictable no matter what I did, but conditions were perfect Sunday and I didn''t score.

Went to our summer fun league last night and spent the entire set working on playing more right-to-left. I think I''ve fallen too much in love with trying to go up the boards and I need to be more versatile.
