H2O a good medium-dry ball?
« on: August 30, 2007, 01:56:29 PM »
My search still continues for a good medium-medium dry ball for the end of the shift, and was wondering if the H2O is a good fit.  I know it was a pretty good ball, but I also remember a friend of mine having one and saying that it hooked more than he thought it was going to.  If it could fit that bill with the right layout, are these still available? I know they've been out for a while.  Thanks everyone.

Are you looking to stay with a Lane #1 release, or would you consider another company?  The Hrg from Lane#1 seems to be more of a true medium to medium-dry ball than the H2O IMHO.  If you are looking outside Lane#1 I would consider the Vibe series from Hammer, lower priced balls that hit like the big boys on lighter oil!

I did take a look at the HRG, but it had a higher hook rating on the Lane 1 site (not that that is always right on any companies site), and I am trying to stay within a certain few companies, unfortunately Hammer is not one of them.  I still have my Roto Venus and Storm Domination I'm working with to see if they fit what I need, but the Domination gets a little flippy and hard to control, and the Venus I'm still experimenting with, and seeing what it gives me on various patterns.

If you want to stay with Roto than the Saturn may be a good fit for you on the medium-dry lanes.  A guy I bowl with has one and it rolls real smooth and long for him on those type of conditions, with a great entry angle into the pocket.  Hope you find something that fits your game!

short pin hrg with the pin down should give you some tameness in the mids and cut down the back and provide you a great med to med dry peice

Thanks triggerman, that's kind of what I was looking for, and was also going to ask my pro shop driller about, what type of layout will tame the core a bit, and be smooth at the breakpoint, but hopefully still hit hard.  Sounds like that might be a good way to go.

the hrg is very long because of the cover, ive found that shorter pins with the pin under finger line work best, gives a read in the mids and cuts the back down some, the ball is still very long but the start up helps take some length out

I happen to have a used 15# hrg single drill sitting here with a short pin that may just fit the  bill, pm me if you are interested in some more info, i can get them new still too
