Has anyone else thrown the Hybrid Megatons???
« on: June 13, 2007, 01:40:48 AM »
I bought two Hybrid Megaons when they came out.  One I drilled with the pin under the ring finger and the CG swung 35 degrees. The other I drilled with the pin on my axix point

The Megatons is a great ball.  The hitting power lane reaction and pin cary is tremendous.  Its a great medium oil ball.  Too much oil and it skates and too little oil it over reacts.  But with good oil and a clean back end, this ball is davastating.  The 10 pin carry is awesome. A problem I've had in the past.  Its not flippy but does make a very strong move to the pocket.  It plays down and in as well as a great swing ball.  Its not an over under ball.

I throw this when there is too much oil for my Enriched Uranium.  The EU is drilled with the pin about 1 1/2 inches below my bridge and the CG directly below.  So I know the drilling has a lot to do with it.

But I have a second EU that is drilled very similar to the Megatons and it is a lot more skid flippy then the Megaton.  It doesn't roll as well and I don't like it as well for a swing ball.  But the EU has tremendous hitting power and is a great ball.  Its just not as predictable as the Megatons and for me doesn't read the mid lane as well.  I can also stay with the Megatons longer the the similar drilled EU.

I know some bought the Megaton to hold on to and not drill, but they are missing out on a great ball.

None of you Buzzsaw diehards used the Hybrid Megatons yet??  Do you realy think holding onto the ball undrilled is going to make you more money then you paid for it in your life time?

I have one and have not drilled it yet.  Not because I think I can make a killing on the re-sale.  i just haven't felt that I needed it quite yet.

Thank you for the response.  I understand not needing a ball.  I did that a couple of times and held on to a ball too long where it lost its purpose of buying the ball to start with.

Pretty much all I'm saying is its a very expensive but great first ball out of the bag.

Mine is drilled pin under bridge (5" from PAP), CG out 45 degrees, and no weight hole required (short pin). It is a very strong ball, and the move when it hits the dry is strong, but not too extreme to the point where control suffers. I left myself plenty of options for adding a weight hole to tune the reaction should I decide I want it to really boogie.

I liked this ball well enough that I did buy another (with a longer pin). I have not yet decided how I wanted to lay it out, so it has been sitting for a while. I will probably drill it after the fall season starts.

It was a limited edition ball that someone made for Lane 1.  I don't know much about the ball but I am still killing them with this ball on most lane conditions where I can play down and in and there is a clean back end and some oil in the middle.  I can move through a 6 game set from down and in to standing aganist the ball return and swinging the ball.

I'm not sure what combintions of coverstocks they used or what weightblock they used.  But it is keeping me inteested in Lane 1's future.  I wasn't happy with the Columbia experiment.

It was an Absolute Inferno cover(Activator+) on the same core as the dirty bomb I believe.

Those are the corret pictures.

I don't usually like Lane 1's comments about their bowling balls because I don't think it gives enough informayion about the ball, but the description above is pretty acurate.
