Having Trouble with EU - Anyone else? help...
« on: April 28, 2006, 03:57:46 AM »
i first had this ball drilled with pin right and a little bit above ring finger with cg about 3inches below.  this ball went too long for me. i didn't like the the way it rolled so i had plugged and redrilled to pin under ring finger with cg about 1 inch right of thumb.

i'm your average righty who throws a little over medium speed with alot of revs.  on synthetic oily lanes, forget about throwing this ball because it does not hook back at all.  on synthetic medium lanes,  it is not the most hooking ball.  this ball kills when it's med dry.

most likely it's me that's the problem and this ball is not suited for my game.  i got the ball according to lane 1 spec that this ball will hook in hevy oil.  has anyone else experienced this?

i don't really want to replug the ball again so please help me in a way of suggestions as to what else can i do with this ball...

Had the same problem, so did others on this site. I bought it for heavy oil ,drilled it stacked, I never could get the ball to work. It was a great ball for Med. oil but thats not where I needed it to wotk.

I foudn with the box surface it worked best on mediums.. I took a 1000 grit abralon pad to the surface and it made the ball quite a bit stronger (knocked the polish off some)...  I was able to throw it on medium-heavies....  I would guess the 500 grit abralon (or maybe 800 grit wet sand) would make this ball strong enough for heavy oil

Mine is drilled stacked and works well on a tight house shot. Surface is in box condition. Tends to slide on heavy oil. With that said I have shot 812 with it.

I have this ball but it is not drilled yet, But my boy has it and watching him throw it it seems to be very sensitive on condition, fresh house shot with fresh backends the ball is very strong almost to strong (leaves a lot of 8's and 9's) but you start to get some carydown and it wants to push to far and past the breakpoint, his is label drilled 2" pin, Taking the polish off helped to smoothen it out and got it to read sooner in the midlane a bit, But is looks to be pretty condition specific, Retro

I like mine a lot (see review) but I agree with those who say it skates on carrydown.  I originally thought it handled carrydown okay, but I am seeing a bit heavier carrydown lately and it won't cut it on that.  I have changed my surface prep to 500 abralon and then a light hit with Black Magic.  This works a bit better.

I would not characterize the Enriched as a heavy oil ball.  If you are rev-dominant, maybe.  I am slightly speed-dominant and my EU kills on a medium condition with good backends to very light carrydown.

I have drilled up a couple, and had great results with the pin below the ring finger, dropped about an inch, cg kicked out...weight hole is 6 inches out...really moves on the backend.
I did take the polish off the surface with 1000 pad, and buffed it up...has been working well on med oil with carry down. I think for heavy oil you still need the scb or solid uranium.
I also drilled one with a 1.30 drilling...the ball has a short one inch pin, so i get alot of length and a big move on the back end.
I think tweaking the coverstock is the way to go..even my tsunami needed the surfaced tweaked before i got the best from the ball..

I removed the polish with green scotch brite pad, it hooked early and died in the backend. I buffed it and it worked well on freshly oiled  to medium oiled lanes. As was said earlier, the ticket is the coverstock preparation.

I have mine at 1:30 Label, and yes it goes longer on light oil, unless there is dry boards.  I plan on using it on a light/dry pattern, if that does not work, I will get my 3rd Cobalt, and drill this one 6x4 1/2, with the Pin above middle finger (other 2 are pin at 1:30 above and slightly right of ring, cg stacked and kicked roght approx. 1 1/2"; and the other is 5x4, pin almost directly above the bridge, cg is approx 3" below rin finger)  1st kills on med/light, and the 2nd is for light to light/dry, although on medium/light is is very smooth, but moves after it reaches its length.  Just save yourself headaches, and get a Cobalt!!

In my opinion, The EU might be the ball from lane 1 that would probably be one of the next ones to hit the retired list......

i used my Enriched Uranium today on medium oil with carry down and had no problems getting a consistent reaction.

i was throwing the ball pretty well today, maybe its not as forgiving with mistakes as other balls, i love mine to be honest.

i havent had a score under 190 with it yet.

quality ball. see profile for layout picture.

EU is more picky with the lane condition ... without dry boards or clean backend ... not much to do .. unless you have meduim condition

this ball was never meant to be for a truly heavy oil ...

the guy from Ohio who shot 879, did it with EU ... first frame [ 7 2 ] and then 35 strikes

Luvdasport, Don't sell yourself short on the lane 1 balls just because this one did not fit your game, I have had a couple that did not work well, the SCB and the Gold Nugget, But i have 7 others that are fine, So i would not hesitate to give it another try, My sugestion would be the Cobalt Bomb or one of the other reactives, Tsunami maybe, I am sure it is the same with all companys.

I have used balls from most all the manufacturers and have had studs and duds........
