Heavy Oil Ball

In 1 house I bowl in I get to enjoy my Cherry Bomb and Cranberry. In the other I have had to survive with an Icon300 because it is heavy oil, all the time, with very little in the backend.
I would like something a little stronger...I'm considering the Black Cherry Bomb, Super Carbide Bomb, Phenom, V2 strong and Throttle. Any opinions out there?

You're confusing hooking ability or amount with a ball's ability to handle oil. They are not related at all.

Most of the best oil handling balls are, as you have experienced with the Icon300, not big hookers; they do not cover a lot of boards. That is mostly because their strength is their ability to grab the lanes while there is heavy oil between the ball's surface and the lane surface. Their resulting hook usually looks much more like a banana or an old-fashioned curve, rather than a pearl ball's hockey stick.

That said, there seem to have been some heavy oil balls made lately that will get a little more length than normal and still be able to have some hook in heavy oil. The Raging Inferno, the Phenom and the Particle Gryphon seem to be some examples. In general, do not expect a heavy oil ball to hook a lot; control is its essence in most, but not all cases.

That is exactly what I'm talking about
Don't get me wrong, on the conditions I described, I don't expect any ball to cover 30 boards. And my Icon300 has been very good to me, it's been my go to ball in the soup. But I'm looking for more, isn't that what keeps the r&d guys hopping? Getting us more?
So, what I'm curious about is what my fellow bowlers have seen in heavy oil, little backend conditions with some of these new balls. My Icon300 is as you describe, a slightly bent banana, hooking maybe 5 boards at the end. In my quest for more I want to know what others have seen with the phenom, V2 strong, throttle, black cherry bomb, super carbide bomb etc. You know, the new heavy oil stuff. What kind of reaction are y'all seeing with these balls in the soup?
