How do they do this?
« on: September 03, 2005, 12:16:12 PM »
I was watching this bullet because I don't have one & it was my exact span. The last bid I saw I think was $43.00 with a buy it now price of I guess $109.00. All of a sudden sale ended, but it shows sold for $0.50 & well, you look. I just want to know how they get away with this?

Had to edit bid amount.

Got me. But is it me or does the shipping costs say 109 bucks or something? Maybe he changed it and the buyer forgot to check out the shipping

No, it was a buy it now price of somewhere over $90 & shipping of around $19.00 when it was on the bid list. Someone must have paid the buy it now price & the seller somehow switched pricing, I think, to save himself e-bay charges. I hope e- bay catches him. Same seller has a dirty bomb on there too, so I'm going to see what happens with that one.

If you want it, you'd better get it before he sells it for .50 to someone else That makes 4 balls for him & he's got 4 different reasons for selling them!

Technically, fromt he way I have seen "Buy it Now" auctions run, once someone has put a bid on the item for less than the buy-it-now price, the Buy-it-now option disappears. The auction must proceed as a regular auction.

I did buy a ball on ebay once when no one had bid on it for 3-4 days and I was interested and emailed the buyer. We agreed on a price and he took it off ebay.

Charlest, I'm sure that happens even though it is against e-bay rules. Also what this guy is doing is cheating e-bay out of their profit for the item being sold.(percentage)

Wayne,

there was a post in Mescellaneous about a month back about a woman doing this same thing: very high shipping and veyr low ball price. Soon thereafter ( 1+ day) she reversed it. I am sure Ebay has people to monitor such and maybe someone from here mentioned it to them. In any case, it's only purpose is obviously to reduce Ebay's percentage of the product;s auction price, which is their commission. Billion dollar corporations don't take kindly to being cheated at any level.

I was bidding on one that just had the thumbhole drilled & no fingers. I guess they decided against keeping it, I'm not sure. Anyway the ball ended up selling for over $100 plus shipping.

Billy Ray, you are correct, that bridge does look wide!

another reason to do this; the seller ONLY needs to refund the selling price to the buyer when refund is requested.  Shipping cost is not refundable.  Becareful when deal with this kind of auction!!
