Options for Drilling a 5+" Pin Liberator?
« on: March 06, 2009, 03:02:13 PM »
I picked up this Liberator as the result of a conversation with my Chuck, my sales rep. I was looking for a ball to cut down the overreactive backends that develop every spring in our 5 man league here.

My best look so far has been with my pin over ring, cg out Evolution...well for the first 2 games anyway. Game 3 I can't move far enough left, throw it hard enough or take enough hand out of the ball consistently to get into the pocket and still carry.

The Liberator is polished, has approx a 5-1/2" pin and has 2 oz top weight. The Evolution is approx a 5x4 drilling with a low weighthole.

I am seriously considering a drilling similar to my Evolution but with the pin about 1-2" above the ring.

Any opinions???

Doug, I love balls with 5" pins.  It lends itself to some versatility when laying out the ball with pin over drills.  I would go with a 5 1/2" Pin to PAP (which would put the pin over my middle finger), keeping the cg stacked directly below, just under the midline.  This type of layout should work well for the condition you seem to be facing, as it's a fairly tame layout with easy length.  Good luck!

Thanks MaineMan!!

That is very similar to what I was thinking. I have a 5-1/2 pin to PAP Psycho and the ball gets lots of length but when the ball whiffs a dry board, WHAM!!!! left turn Clyde!!!!

I was figuring  the urethane cover of the Liberator would keep it from behaving that way off the oil.

Anybody else?
