Had several FQ; only read about the Cherry.
They're supposed to have the same coverstock: pearlized PowerKoil 18.
Many people have commented here on the incredible skid/flip nature of the Cherry. That kind of suprised me because although the FQ uses a pearl coverstock, I'd never say it was skid/flip unless I used it on far too heavy an oil pattern for its intended purpose. Mine was always very predictable even when I placed the pin over the ring finger. I suppose some of that has to do with the very even nature of that famous Quantum core.
Like all pearls, both have to hit a decent amount of dry before they will begin their hook/roll cycle.
I've seen a few people try to use the Cherry on oil patterns it was never designed to handle. Maybe they though the flare from the double diamond core would make up for their hand. I don't know. When this happened, the ball would, of course, skid 59 feet and then hit weakly, if at all.
If you understand the limitaions of the drilled balls and your hand/delivery, then both balls should serve you very well. I think the Cherry, with its slightly greater backend will require slightly more open (less carrydown, less random dry boards) than the more even, though lower flaring Fire Quantum. Ball paths will lookslightly different but I think they should handle the same oil patterns: medium-light to medium oil, depending on drilling and your hand/delivery.
The hitting power of both balls, mostly due to the coverstock, should be very good to excellent. If it is not, then you are bowling on either too much oil or too little for your hand and the drilling.
