One more chance...
« on: April 02, 2007, 02:55:37 PM »
For my Tsunami.  I've been frustrated by it's inconsistent performance, so I resurfaced it back to 600 grit, ran it through the dishwasher (no heat drying cycle) to remove any potential oil and finished it back to 1000 grit (no polish).  If it hooks one shot and skates the next, it's taking a long roll off a short pier.  Either that or I'll sand to 4000 and polish it like a marble in case I need something that hooks 2 more boards than my XXXL.

Make sure the pier is pointing my way.... I would love one of these in a 15 pounder instead of 14..

Strider: Has the ball always been inconsistent? I don't have a Tsunami, so I don't have a frame of reference.

Strider, I'm not as patient as you. I got money for mine after owning it for only a couple of weeks!

Well, I guess the pier is out of the equation.  Apparently the ball was oil logged because it reacted much better tonight.  Matter of fact, I shot my first 800 (278-269-258 = 803) just a few hours ago.  Thank goodness it was sanctioned.  My last two honor scores weren't.

Steven, I got it used from JRPLane#1 at last year's BR gathering.  I drilled it right over his left handed (more or less label leverage) pattern.  I rolled it some to get an idea of the cover strength and really liked the way it rolled, so I saw no reason to change it.  If the conditions were right, it was silky smooth.  I thought it would be great on flat patterns, but it just skated forever on anything that wasn't a house shot.  At first, I blamed it on the weak drill.  After a while, it became inconsistent even on a house shot.  One shot would hook fine, the next would go an extra 5-7 feet and labor in an attempt to recover.  I guess I've had such good luck with balls in the past that I didn't recognize the reason for the poor performance.

Congrats Strider! Great bowling & I'm happy for you that you figured it out. That's more than I could do with mine!

Now I'm not sure if it's the ball, the dishwasher, or me.  I shot 278 (front 9), 190, 300 with it tonight.  If I wouldn't have fought my release (63 through 5 frames) the second game, I might have shot back to back 800's.  Maybe I'll have to consider picking up another while I still can.

Strider, I had the same exact misgivings about mine too, Then I tossed it in the oven. 4 hours over 2 days later I had a clean ball, no oil coming out of it at all. Before I did this one shot hook one shot skid...... Now its a beast. I think it was the dishwasher.... I had oil (constant every 12 minutes wipe with windex) for over 3.75 hours.... Not just a little either..... 1st time I done it I had drippings in the bowl I used to set the ball on......

Thats great to hear Strider.. Funny you bring this up..

My H20 did the same for me (no oil extraction) too, more I used it, stronger the ball has become, more forgiving too..

Ball is a BEAST..
