Hows it going guys, After reading up alot about multiple companies, I'm ready to give lane 1 a try. I'm looking for a ball for med-heavy oil conditions, And i think i've chosen this ball. Is this a good decision. How does this ball react in oil?
-
I have mine drilled with the pin just above the ring finger and the CG kicked out just a bit. Mine goes long and has a strong angular back end. I've used it on med-heavy patterns with pretty good success, as long as the backends are clean. It covers alot of ground once it comes off the pattern. Personally I prefer my Solid Uranium when on medium-heavy patterns, it gives a better midlane read and a more predictable backend.

I have actually had three of them, two were drilled label and one was pin above the bridge and Cg swung right about 3/4 of an inch the two that were Label I abslutely hated for me I could not get but about 1-2 boards of movement and that was if there was little or no oil the third one was a different story that ball was a beast ended up giving the third one to my daughter and she still uses it to date the ones drilled up label I sold

From what I've read the HDB is a Hit or Miss ball... Some people loved it and it worked very well... Others thought it was the worst Lane#1 ball available... IMO, I'd go for the Solid Cobalt... It'll handle the conditions your shooting on and it's allot smoother..

agreed with zeusjr, but if you wnat to use the cobalt solid on oil, drill it strong, another suggesstion would be either the black cherry bomb or the solid uranium for truely med heavy oil

My HDB is pin under ring cg kicked slightly to the left w/small weight hole..
At first I wasn't too sure of this ball, but it's actually getting better the more it gets used.. As far as lane play.. med/light I use mine for.. My med/heavy ball is the SU hands down.. IMO..never used the cobalts yet.. GL..
oh yeah.. believe the hipe..

I would not suggest the HDB for said conditions. It may not be strong enough. You might want to look into the new Cobalt Solid, the Black Cherry Bomb, or the Uranium solid. Some guys like the bomb cores better, while some like the dimaond cores better. For me, I have had success with both, but I favor the diamonds by a small margin.

I should be getting one in the mail in the next day or so through UPS. It is my first lane 1 ball. I was excited about it, but I am not excited anymore after reading this. BTW, where did you find info on it? I couldn't even find anthing about it on their site. All I saw was the dirty bomb.

dont be disappointed yet, for a lot of people the hdb is a very very good ball, for some of us it is not. I had both the pearl and the solid and both seemed to be very good, I just did not get the desired reaction out of the drilling I put on it. a good starting point would be to call into lane #1 1-800-laneno1 and speak to them about drilling of this ball, my wisdom went out the window on it as it did not do what i felt it should

I may not have been clear either. I like my HDB, but only on the right conditions. I ended up plugging and redrilling mine to get a different reaction as well. It is a good ball, as long as you, the ball, and the lane conditions are all on the same page.

I don't know anything about drilling or layouts, but the way mine is drilled, the pin is a little below the fingers and there is a big air hole that is under the right side of my hand. I brought it to my proshop guy and he thought it should be plugged and redrilled for a new layout. He said it is a good ball, but I wouldn't want that layout. Well see what he does.
