Hybrid Mini-Review
« on: January 04, 2005, 12:25:03 PM »
Although 3 games is not enough for a serious shakedown of a ball I thought I'd post my thoughts for those of you considering trying one.

Pre Drill Specs:
15-0 gross, 3.6 top and a 2-1/2" pin

drilling: 5x4, pin over ring, cg was right of and below ring, 3/4" above midline

weighthole in thumb quadrant....odd since the cg 3/4" above the midline but OK whatever and yes I did check the static cg punch to be sure it was the actual cg :-)

Ending weights: 14-13 gross, 3/4 side, 1/8 finger and 1 oz top weight.

The only shot I had to throw it on was an after-league shot. No fresh lanes were available. Original lane pattern is a top hat with the wall at 10. Drops from 55 units to 5 at that point.

The ball is not the huge hook monster everyone thought it would be (with this drilling anyway). I am getting about 5" of flare but it is soooooo smooth it is sick.

I was throwing it side by side with a Dirty Bomb that is close to stacked leverage (4-1/4 x 4). Overall hook was about 5 boards more but the Hybrid was very smooth and did not have the snappy backend of the DIrty Bomb. It still hooked and hooked through the pins but was not snappy at all.

The continuous hook is one thing that I am surprised about. I typically struggle with early burn out on the house shot but not this time. This ball just keeps coming and coming and coming.

I played with some different releases and different lines and I had literally from 8 at the arrows (outside and it hooked way early) in to about 25 with the proper release. I could set the breakpoint anywhere from 5 to 15 and get the ball into the pocket and carrying. The only shot I had problems with was "dead wristing" it up 10. It would slam the pocket but I was leaving 7's and 8's.

For those of you wanting a solid reactive but don't like the ultra-low rg balls like the Solid Uranium, give this one a throw. Overall hook is less than the Solid U (it hooks later) but more than the Black Cherry (moves sooner).

I am going to use it tomorrow night in our SPORT league and THursday in our 5 man league so I will add more after those outings.

Mine is drilled 5 x 4 1/2 pin above and between middle and ring finger with no weight hole, ball is very smooth and is not snappy at all on a wet/dry condition i bowl on. For me ball is stronger than solid uranium but weaker to 1000 matte finish black cherry bomb i also use which is drilled 3 x 2. The hybrid is earlier and smoother even though has dirty bomb core when it hits the dry it keeps on motoring through the pin deck. I think it will be much useable to more bowlers it reminds me off the Black c2 roll with no jumpiness weaker than the original blue solid carbide but more of a c2 roll than bomb roll to the ball. I usually hate bomb core balls but i think this ball because of the cover change will be a huge seller probably the most versatile buzzsaw for the last 3 years. Good job getting it right this time around for the saw guys that like a ball most bowlers will score well with on most shots.

I agree with MrBowlingNut here this ball is going to be big...

I used mine today in a local holiday tourney and it performed incredibly well. There were several guys using Deuces and Icons and such but the carry I got from this ball was incredible. The pattern was a 41 foot light blend without a huge wall to lean on. The ball had enough oomph to get back and hit if I missed right but didn't jerk left if I laid it a bit inside.

This ball is going to make a lot of bowlers a lot of money.

Thank you again Lane 1 for getting this ball out and in my hands...it is over the top!!!

Still killing with this ball the new hybrid is the nuts on medium with carrydown and spotty heads. Even though it is Bomb Core ball is super smooth and killer backend reaction, i think it is the best saw made since the c2 cherry. Kudos to Ritchie and staff on a ball that will score alot of honor scores very soon when released, i think this ball will go down as the best saw and most useable ever made.

I have every saw except the cranberry and know this ball is the best hitting one i have ever used and to think i almost canned the company over price fixing. You will like this ball and it does not track up i just hope the cover lasts awhile since i will be using it twice a week the rest of the season.

Funnny thing......you never see anyone post much about a ball being a total dud.  Rather than post a negative comment, which I am sure there are plenty of them, they just say nothing.  Not just Lane#1 stuff, but every ball...wonder why that is?

I always post what I feel or personally know is a dud from experience.  I will agree it does't happen from most as often as the +'s do but it does happen.  The last one that comes to my mind is my posting about the Primal Instinct being a dud.

Well i am killing with this ball and i paid full price for it, so if you are talking about me you are out of line. The last crappy ball i had was the anomoly from dynothane and i tried to work with Phil for a replacement and was never answered. I think i got a bad ball that hooked about 3 boards but was told it was burning up but that was not true because even in oil it went even straighter and polished it just skated on dryer heads.

I am not a staffer but a real guy just telling people what is happening from real experience and BTW i own about 150 plus balls so i think i know what is a good ball and what is crap. I can afford them and use all of them and sell off what does not roll well for my game which i admit i stink big deal i am not trying to be someone i am not but will bowl you or anyone on here for fun and love of the game.

Owego is just west of Binghamton or to put it another way it is near the Finger Lakes region.

Takes me about an hour and a half to get to Syracuse.

Owego is about as far from anywhere as one can find!!

There is no one there except Doug Sterner and some girls that tend to run a little heavy and are usually very stacked on top!

I haven't been there often but I've dated as many of there girls as I could!

Something in the water!
