Well... here's my first impression of the hybrid. I decided just to plug the thumb and redrill it, leaving the layout esentially the same. This left the pin just right and even with the ring finger and the cg stacked below. Again, this measured out to be approximately a 4 X 4 layout for me. The ball ended with about 3/4 oz side weight and about 1/4 oz thumb. I decided to test the reaction prior to deciding on a weight hole. I resurfaced the ball (mostly to smooth and even out the plug) with CABs ending with the 1200 grit disc. I applied a light coating of Storm Reacta-Shine to end with a light polished surface.
I tested the ball out on PBA Scorpion pattern (41 ft, fairly heavy oil) layed out on synthetic lanes. I quickly found that my best reaction was occurring towards the outside part of the lane. Initially, I was throwing straight down the boards, targeting between board 3 and 5. As long as I was consistant with speed, the ball would rev up very nicely and had no problem making it back to the hole. Carry from this angle was only marginal (a little slow on the speed ran high and would leave 9 pin or 4-9, while a little fast with speed would go from hitting light to missing the hole completely). After about a game, I was able to move a bit deeper on the lane and swing from about 8 at the arrows to around 5 at the break point. This line seemd to carry the best. In one stretch, I managed to string seven in a row. The ball seemed to read the midlane easily, rev up, and make it back. A nice smooth and controlled reaction, definitely no skid/snap. If I missed outside, it just took off (although I'm not sure any ball would make it back from there). Over the two games I threw, hit and carry was very good (pretty much anything that "should have" carried did carry).
I'm excited to get this ball out on an "easy" pattern. From the looks of it, it will perform very well. Mid lane read seems good. Recovery is fine when dry is available. My only worry (which I didn't encounter) is when the heads dry up (although it appears the ball is plenty strong enough to play from inside) and when carry-down sets in.
My first impression is that this ball would be very good "all around" type of ball.
