Layout for a Blueberry
« on: October 06, 2003, 06:11:17 AM »
I'm looking for a good control layout for light to med. oil with strong backends. I am looking mostly at wood lanes, but I also bowl often on synthetics, subbing. I just got a Cherry Bomb which is too much for the house I'm currently bowling leagues in. Thanks for your input.

pin above fingers on midline and cg swung out a bit.
or if the lanes are really dry get a viper and hit it

What about maybe a 3x4?  Lol, I just traded for a Blueberry, and I just can't decide what to do with it.  I already have a pretty complete arsenal, I just don't know where it would fit.  I might just end up replacing my present control ball, it's pretty beat up and has been plugged a million times.  The current layout is pin under bridge, 4x1 to keep plug out of the track.  Yeah, it's that bad . .

If you are like me and don't have a lot of hand, get a 3" Pin if possible and put Pin beside and just above ring finger and swing CG out about 1" further than being straight below Pin.

If you have some hand, put Pin above ring finger fand swing CG out about 2".

Kendog, you might consider contacting Doug Sterner and/or T-God as they are really good at suggesting layouts.

K-Dog, 3by5 has worked very well for me. Though, I tend to play inside and swing it on the condition you mention. Also, I have thrown the BB with a couple of different drills but have noticed that regardless of the drill pattern, it is super controllable once the polish is knocked off. Good luck with your decision!-Mike

From what I've read previously, I guess the main thing is to get the cg kicked out a bit (2" ?). Last night I threw my Core power HRG which has the pin in ring and cg swung out about 1-1 1/2 off center. With this layout I was throwing a total fluff from about 30 at the line across 18-20 at the arrows and out to 10-8 at 40 ft. These backends just fly. I never had the guts to even try my Cherry bomb, cause it hooks probably 5-7 boards more than the hrg.

when you're "swinging the cg out", are you going right or left (for a right handed bowler)??

if swinging to the left, aren't we talking about label leverage?  that's my preferred layout to tame down the backend somewhat while keeping a strong continuation through the pocket.

I guess I was taking it the other way. I saw some posts here recently stating that a label drilling could lead to over/under problems on some Lane #1 balls. I understood this cg out to mean out to the right for a righty, or towards the pap.

have you looked at the drilling suggestions on the lane#1 website?  i'm pretty sure that the label leverage tames down the backend, but i could be wrong.
