I have been under a large rock.....
« on: February 03, 2008, 03:35:03 PM »
Who pours Lane 1 covers these days anyway?

I have been out of bowling for about 9 months so, please excuse my ignorance. I know some things might have got shuffled around with Ebonites acquisitions. Thank you for any info.

I think the covers are holding up great, and this new one on the buzzbomb is fantastic

Just waiting to see what the future between Richie and Phil ends up putting on a ball

What's the issue with Global 900? The covers on the Supernovas I've seen (including mine) have held up very well. Have you seen anything different?

The problem isn't with 900 Global specifically, but the last time Lane #1 changed to Columbia, the balls took a sharp turn down (HRG for instance).  If you are someone who was spoiled on the old Powerkoil covers (like myself), anything else they put over the diamond core is just not the same!

the global covers are proving themselves quite well around here, lots of these balls going off the shelves and holding up well with a lot of people coming back for 2nd and 3rd purchases

Funny how different people have different tastes.

The HRG is one of my favorites...so much so, that I bought a second HRG and went with a different drill and surface. The other Columbia-poured balls are OK for me as well. Nothing over-the-top spectacular, but I have used them all with some degree of success.

I like most of the Bruns-poured balls other than the Tsunami and the C+. Actually, the C+ and I have come to terms. The Tsunami is the only ball I have that I will probably not throw again.

Lastly, the 900 covers are off to a great start. I am very happy with the performance of the new balls, and look forward to some of the new variations that will be coming down the pipe in the future.

Since Phil developed the "Soaker" cover...you gotta think that 900Global will be good.  I have used a AMF Hei$t this year that is a Superflex base cover and can't say anything bad about the ball or it's reaction and manufactured by 900Global.

The Supernovas are being pored by 900Global? I thought all of the G-Force series was Columbia stock? Just curious.....

I have never liked the equipment when they were with Columbia but thats just me. Like MainePBA im a powercoil 18 guy. Have shot some big numbers with the older equip and the C/2 cores. When they were with Brunswick. Never had much luck with the C+ and the Tsunami like novawagonmaster. The balls where to shot specific and to over and under. I don't think the balls will ever be the same then when they were with Brunswick.

I wouldn't necessarily go out your way, then, to criticize 900 Global covers. It seems you simply don't match up to them as well as you did Brunswick covers...whereas others may have found a much better reaction. If anything, your problem shouldn't be that 900G is pouring covers for your beloved company...it should be that your beloved company left your beloved Brunswick covers.

It's all relative, folks. One persons garbage is another's luxury. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

The entire Supernova series, the Liberator, and the BuzzBomb, BTW, have been poured by 900G. They use the same BASF resins as Columbia, which poured the first three G-Forces (solid, Evo, Nebula). Cover formulations, though, are Lane #1's, if I recall correctly from what Ritchie said...meaning that all problems with matching up to the new stuff is even further distanced from 900G.

Just my .02.

I have the same matching up problem as some of the members here...when Lane#1 were still with Brunswick, it was simply fantastic for me...high scores after high scores but that is no longer the case after Lane#1 switched partner. I have switched company too...but I might just give the Buzzbomb a try.

Last time I checked you can get a G-Force solid, nebula,or evolution for like $100 now. Why might that be???(maybe because they are junk) I know because I have a G-Force Solid and I really regret drilling the ball. By far the worst investment ive made. The ball is over and under and hits like crap. The covers and cores just don't match up like they did with Brunswick. I should have just kept it new and sold it. You say all this about Lane#1, but yet you don't even throw a saw. There is a difference between Global and Lane#1.
