Can anyone tell me.....?
« on: May 04, 2003, 03:48:07 PM »
I'd like to know what the surface grit of the original Super Carbide is other than light buff.  Also, I'd like to know what the RG and differentials are for the Blueberry if someone can inform me.

Thanks

DD,

Here are the listed rg's and diff from Lane 1's website.

       16lb. 15lb. 14lb.
RGmax: 2.552 2.554 2.556
Rgmin: 2.521 2.519 2.516
Diff:  .031  .035  .040

Can't help you with the surface of the SC though.

Take care....JS

DD,

I know you won't believe this, but I called Lane 1 and talked to Richie about the surface on the Super Carbide (I have four) and he says other thenits a light buff, he doesn't have a clue. he say they do it by hand, but to tell us to use this trizat pad or scotch brite and that polish, he didn't know. I find that amazing.  But through the years, I have not seen very much TEC death syndrome in the Super Carbide.

WOW, that is quite interesting.  My main interest was for cleansing purposes.  I use renew it, then liquid sandpaper, then finish it off with hook it.  I basically do this every 6-9 games, but I use hook it to clean it all the time.  I was just wondering if that was overkill to the cover, because I think the liquid sandpaper takes the cover to 400 grit.

Like Nicanor, I once contacted Lane #1 to try to find out the out-of-the-box surface grit on one of their balls and was told that since Brunswick makes the balls for them, they really don't know what the exact surface is.  I also found that amazing.  It seems to me that Lane #1 could either specify a certain grit surface for their stuff, or at the very least, find out from Brunswick what it is.  I don't know why it is, but getting any kind of accurate information from anyone in the bowling industry, from manufacturers to bowling centers is nearly impossible.  This leads conveniently to the next topic...

No one seems to know for sure what grit level you get from Liquid Sandpaper, but the generally accepted figure here on the board seems to be about 600 grit.  Some folks have professed that 600 seems a bit coarser than what they see, and have mentioned that maybe you get 600 on a spinner, but more like 1000 by hand.  I'm pretty sure, though, that you don't get 400 grit from Liquid Sandpaper.  I've used Liquid Sandpaper, but not lately.  My personal guess is that it gives you somewhere in the 800-1000 range.  If you want 400 grit from a polish rather than scuff pads or sandpaper, the Ebonite Sand Blaster polish claims to give you a 400 grit finish.  I have some, but haven't used any yet.  Maybe we can get an opinion from someone who has used it.  My personal favorite polish is the now defunct Ebonite Powerhouse Quicksand, which gets you to about 1200.  An email I received from Ebonite tells me that the Quicksand has been closely replaced by Matte Finish--something else I haven't yet tried, since I stocked up on Quicksand.

Actually, I got my stats mixed up because I wanted to buy the Sandblaster at first.  Now my SC's reaction with the Hook-It and Liquid Sandpaper, I think that the Sandblaster might have been too much.  I also felt real cool for a short period of time ordering a group of Neo-Tac products together. He-He.  Well, the grit surface isn't a big deal as long as it isn't being drastically altered by the products.  Drastic being the key.

Thanks anyway guys

I emailed Neo-Tac a while back.  Liquid Sandpaper gives 1000 grit if applied by hand and 800 grit if used with a spinner.

The oringinal suface of the Super Carbide is 35 micron, using a green trizact pad. I have one and had to resurface it. I don't remember where I found the info , but I'm sure it was correct. Thanks,

35 Microm then lightly buffed sounds right.

Neo Tec Liquid Sandpaper? Renew-It and Hook-It?  I'm not a Liquid Sandpaper person but I have used the Ebonite's version.  I also use Clean and Dull on a moist (water) scotch brite pad to clean the SC.  Since I have four I set them up differently.  Since Renew-It has some polish in it, I think it almost gives you the light buff when used on a spinner.  Another great Neo-Tac product that just came out is Nitro.  That is great for cleaning the ball after league/practice tournament.  Evaporates very quickly and leaves a very tacky surface.

I haven't seen Nitro anywhere, so I'll have to order it online.  Neo-Tac products are not to big in my area, but at least that's just my area.  The combo of the three cleaners seems little over kill, but that ball collects sooooo much crud that it could use a real good cleaning.  Plus I'd rather not have it die like my Freak did.  The reaction I get out of it that way is terrific anyhow.  I had a hunch it would have been 35 micron finish.  Thanks

Nicanor--
I'm a big Neotac fan, but haven't come across Nitro yet.  It sounds comparable to Hook-It, from your description.  What would you say the difference is between the two?

Shiv

P.S.  By the way, the post at the address below promises some interesting chemical and health related info on Hook-It as soon as Bjaardker receives an MSDS from Neotac.

I've had the Liquid Nitro since last Fall. Bought it at the Pro Shop.

I don't like to use Hook-It or Renew-It at the bowling center but I love to at home when I can spin the ball.  Thge evaporation rate on Hook-It and Renew-It is slow, Nitro is almost immediate.  It cleans exceptoinally well though i think the tough marks comes off easier with Hook-It on the spinner.  So if I were to say the biggest benifit of Nitro, its the evaporation rate.  I love Ebonites Power Energizer, but IMHO, Nitro is even better then that.

I read a few posts about Hook-It eating alot of stuff up like skin and plastic.  In my personal experiences I've never ran into any problems with it.  Actually, the stuff never touches my hands.  Although the fact that it is like that bothers me.  Can't wait for that material list to get posted.

The best stuff to use is Black Magic by ultimate bowling products. Use everytime after you finish bowling for the day. This does work for other bowling balls also.
