I need help with my Hybrid...
« on: February 24, 2005, 11:57:29 AM »
I just got it and decided to try drilling it a little different than my other balls.  I had it drilled with the CG leverage layout that comes on the sheet with the ball, the pin is over the ring finger, kicked out at about 2'Oclock.  In the first two games it continuously rolled out on me with the box finish so someone advised me to sand it and that stopped the roll out problem but now it hooks way to early.  I have never really liked sanded or non-polished balls.  I want it to go long and have a nice strong backend, like my Uranium (which I love).  So what would be the best drilling for this reaction and also would cure my rollout problem?  I was hoping to get a ball that hooks a little bit more than my Uranium but is also a little more forgiving and controllable.  Please help.

SK, you're ball was not rolling out. Because when you sand the ball, it should roll out sooner/more. With the pin over the fingers, you were probably getting too much length to where the ball was wishy washy on the carrydown, looking like rollout.

I would adjust your sanding to a higher grit or polish the ball to a lower grit. The CG out layout gives the ball a smoother reaction on the backend, which may be adding to your problem. =:^D

So what grit/polish combo would you recommend?  My first inclination is to re-drill it.

Why redrill it? Thats not the problem. Mine is drilled very similar and rolls just fine.. I am not sure what the problem with your ball is, but it does not appear to be the drilling to me..

If they only made a ball that would carry that da_n 7 pin (and I am right handed!!)

SK, to what grit did you sand it..? Keep going to a higher grit until the ball works to your liking. If you can't dial it in working with the coverstock, then I would redrill it with the pin below the fingers. =:^D

I beleive it was a 1000 or 1200 grit sanding.  Should I go higher??  After hearing your replies I think I will sand it to a lower grit then polish it.  Any suggestions on the grit?  300?  400?  Higher?  Lower?

Sand it to 400, then apply either Brunswicks High gloss finish, or Black Magic.

BTW, this isn't to restore factory finish, i'm just recommending it.
