Uranium HRG - can this be THE idea behind it?
« on: November 17, 2006, 12:35:39 PM »
I was just checking out the RG and Differential of the new HRG

Uranium HRG  16 lb 15 lb 14 lb 13 lb 12 lb
RGmax:       2.582 2.583 2.583 2.611 2.649
Rgmin:       2.553 2.550 2.545 2.576 2.621
Diff:        .029   .033  .038  .036  .028

and I'll be darned if the numbers didn't remind me of the Silver Diamond. So I went and looked at them:

Buzzsaw/C Silver Diamond  16 lb 15 lb 14 lb
RGmax:                    2.551 2.555 2.557
Rgmin:                    2.527 2.527 2.525
Diff:                      .024  .028  .032

And while they're not identical, the difference could be viewed as designed in to compensate for the differences in the performance of the coverstocks. (Today's pearls are a 1/2 to one full degree stronger than yesteryear's coverstocks.)

And if you'll notice, early reports are displaying a vague similarity in overall performance of the 2 ball's given, of course, the difference in oil and lane surfaces.

So, I'm thinking, no, more - I'm wondering if whoever designed the new HRG might have had a slight or minor upgrade in the performance of the Silver Diamond in mind when they designed the HRG??

Just a thought to ponder.

charlest: Back to your original question, I really don't think the brain trust at Lane#1 delved into the 'deep thinking' you seem to be suggesting. In my correspondence with them, they simply seemed to be looking to introduce a twist to the Uranium line -- classic Uranium reaction with a little more length and backend pop. If it's reaction overlaps any other balls released in the past (Cranberry, Golden Nugget, or even the Silver Diamond), it's more coincidence than anything else.

The thread makes for an interesting read though.

Yeah, I hear you, Steven. There are enough "skeletons" in the closet all around the bowling world without looking for more. I just thought it was a nice idea that invokes all the positive connections to the original Diamond Core theory. Considerin that Lane#1 is practically entering a new era, so to speak, I thought that connection would make good pubilicity.
