Is the Buzzbomb all hype?
« on: February 24, 2008, 12:39:10 AM »
I am really close to not buying one since my source (who shall currently remain nameless) says he can't find my specs anyway. All these negative reviews have given me a really bad feeling about this, which will (or would have been) my first foray into Lane 1. Add to that the fact that I e-mailed Lane 1 thru the website a week ago for info and haven't heard, and it sure does sound like hype. It sounds really close to the Resurgence hype I bought into, and that ball is a piece of crap for anyone with no hand.

I agree with previous posters that at this point I've only seen hypesters push the ball. Question now is whether or not to take the plunge.

By the way, I won't by the "oh you just don't match up" routine forever when comparing similarly drilled balls... If it smells like garbage and looks like garbage, enough reviews will confirm it's garbage.

Wonder how far it's worth it to go and see? If it's fine, I'll sing the praises. If not, I'll be sure to make that known also....
Personally, I'm the PERFECT test case. I don't know Lane 1, I have no preconceived notions (although I'm sure getting some), I'm a true stroker bowling on a left hand flood, perfect tester for this ball. Of course, I can't get one so it may not matter.

I've never hyped Lane #1. I bought a BuzzBomb from deadmoney, it is drilled lable and I'm here to tell you mine is an animal. I usually roll pretty straight but I can actually swing the BuzzBomb. I threw it last week on a pair that had been used the previous night for league play and was able to use my buzzbomb even on that shot, though it did leave some 10 pins due to loss of energy. I have has a lot of balls over the years but for me nothing turns as hard as this ball.

I have a used one on eBay which ends today
I bought two of them right off the bat. I like both of them ALOT. They are drilled differently, but the reaction is not different enough to justify keeping them both.

I thought I had wasted my money like some others. But I refused to give up on the ball. For me it had to much for the conditions I normally see unless I play a tourney. So I tried taming it with polish this worked but not well enough. During league play it would not make it through the second game. I was forced to play  line I did not like and was leaving way to many splits.
Then a fuse blew in my head and I took it in and had the surface changed to 2000/polished. What a difference this made in the whole character of the ball
. It will still do the med-heavy just with a tighter line and now gets down the lane further.

Guys make up your own minds on this ball but I am glad I got it and worked with it to make it good for me. Pin carry is great keeps the pins low. I rolled a sweeper last night and took my 174 avg. in and left averaging 190 for last night. Should have been more but I did not adjust properly the last game.

To answer the question that may arise: I am a righty throwing a 15lb stacked leveraged BB. I consider myself a tweener and will never be a cranker due to a lingering wrist issue. Therefore I will not be known to cross 30 boards to get to the pocket.

I'll take ALL the 16 lb. BUZZBOMBS from the bowlers who are frustrated. I own
a BUZZBOMB, and it's a CONCRETE truck. I have it drilled with the label drilling,(which for me i've never had any luck with),and this ball out hooks
my anger, fury, levrg, and my immortal solid. The only ball I have that covers
more boards is my centaur particle, which will hook on GLASS.
I do believe certain balls will match up better with certain bowlers.
I have a immortal solid that is a truck on straight up shots, but is a turd if you swing it. I have never seen so many ringing 10's and washouts with any ball
I have ever owned, EVER!!
My levrg leaves more 8 and 9 pins than I've seen. I kid you not!!!
The only reason I haven't sold both of them is, I hate giving up on them!(I think I will probably plug and redrill the immortal with a high pin drilling for down and in shots.(what a waste).

If you decide to purchase one, make sure your ball driller weighs the ball up before drilling and then make sure he gives you good static weights. I try to get my side weight around 5/8+ w/ 1/2 top. It may not always come perfect but close.
What specs do you want for the ball?

So are you saying that final static weights are more important than placing the pin/CG in relation to the bowler's PAP???

Place the pin where you want it in relation to your PAP to get the flare you want, high for length or low for slightly earlier roll, then place the CG where you want it, whether it's for static weight reasons or weight hole placement - not trying to dig up that old debate.

Back on topic....

There have been a few disappointed people, but a big majority seem to like it.  It may be over hyped like a lot of other balls, but this seems to be a solid ball for medium to heavy oil.  A good pro shop will make every effort to get you into the right drill and surface, and make amends if something doesn't go right.

Very interesting comments, thanks to all. Here's my bottom line.. If the ball is a true "monster", then I look for one basic comment, and I just saw it. Amount of hook doesn't matter, reacting off the dry at a 90 degree angle with a cranker... who cares! I'm a stroker.
What I want to hear is a stroker or low tweener saying "I can only play straight on a given condition but now I can bend it a little". To a stroker, too often locked out of competitive carry, that's the only comment that is relative when looking for hook help.

Hey 7, tell me more. What's your specs and drilling/surface?

Thanks to all. We may just try this experiement yet...

I've had a HDB that acted similar to what some have seen in the BB. But I think as I found in my situation is that it's probably more the drilling in that ball for the paticuler person that's not matching up with them and the BB. My HDB was this way at certain times. There was times it would just skid 46+ feet and then just a tad of movement. Then some days it would frickin be flying off the backends to beat the band. What I thinks going on.

I believe you stated the problem and the solution.  You listen to too many.  Here you will read reviews from :
- someone who just want to bash lane1 and claim to have the ball with negative review
- someone who truly bought the ball and struggling with it
- someone who truly bought it and love it

you state too many negative reviews ??  those posters don't represent even 5% of all those who have it.

I never let others reviews be a factor in my decision.  If I needed extra info, I ask specific members.

to me, reading the ball tech info + watching few videos of the ball + knowing how to compare it to other balls that I have is more than enough to make my decision.

what is really funny, when other companies have new balls out every 3-4 weeks .. no one talks about their hype .. but when lane1 put a new ball out every 2 months or so .. everyone jumps in

Hey GTX, take a reality pill, ok?

First off, I don't use a tag line F.O.S. You're automatically biased in my book.

And who the heck says other companies don't get bashed for hype, particularly Big B?

This is strictly unbiased observation form someone who's never said yea or nay oabout anything Lane 1.. Just observing and watching the hype explode.

Please, go troll somewhere else.

I have the HDB.  Great ball.  Drilled exactly like the Buzzbomb.  Two different bowling balls agreed, but I can swing the HDB without problems.  The HDB reminds me a lot of the T-Road solid.

Lefty take this for what it is but I am a stroker who is still learning I have had my most success with the total NV with alot of thumb 7/8 if I remember right as far as the way I usually bowl (feet at 15, ball at arrows 10, out to 5 and back to pocket (hopefully) now for the BB (feet at 30, ball around 15 out to 5 thats right back to pocket with alot of power LOVE this Ball. as far as my drill it is stack pin below fingers with 3/8 thumb and 1/2 side I believe and OOB finish as far as hype doesn't everyone hype the balls they like.
