Just a thought for a new Lane #1 ball
« on: August 17, 2006, 03:50:11 AM »
Well guys been sitting here thinking about all this talk about Lane #1 going to Columbia for their new covers... And I had a monster idea, improve the T1 cracking problem and come out with a diamond core or bomb core EPOXY!!!

OMG would that thing HOOK in the BACKSWING OR WHAT??? Shivering and drooling all at the same time and I don't EVEN need a hooking ball. My light to medium balls become HOOK MONSTERS in my hands. What do you think???

Yes that sounds great, But where would you get enuff oil to use it? Most centers wall it up so bad on there house shot you would never get thru the heads to get outside, I had the EPX, One of the better ones and it was not often i could use it and here in the Northeast, we actually have oil, You get the back ends but not the outsides.

Please build me a ball that goes straight for most of the lane.
Build a ball that tilts up on the back 10 feet or so.
I don't want a ball that hooks in my backswing - I have no trouble getting to the pocket with anything I now own.
I don't understand those who want more hook.
Really.

Rags,
These are the wishes of most of the people out there. The ONLY reason I would even look at one would be for tournaments only. Truthfully I tend to shy away from hook monsters. I am a medium kinda guy. Our main house only puts out a light medium shot, and only if the machine messes up is it any heavier.

Sad thing is that I see anyways is that the people buying these hook monsters have no business having them anyways. All they do is complain they leave stone 8 pins or ringing tens all night long. I am not a huge fan of lofting the gutter caps, although I have done that occasionally. Whatever Lane #1 does is still a mystery, but I would like to see some weaker pieces too. I think I may scarf up a Cobalt before the switch just to make sure I have the originals and not copies. If they switch the whole freakin line of balls will have to change. I can't see much being the same with a different cover on them even if it is the same core... know what I mean...

Why would this be any stronger than any ball that columbia could produce?

Stanski,

Just from my own personal experience with Columbia. I have owned a few and have used a few. They roll differently and I feel much more touchy when you over rev them. They tend to squirt for me, over/under. If I stay behind them they behave like they should. I feel they are more for the stroker style than other brands.

Now my Lane #1 stuff I can rev them up, stroke them and I get the reaction I expect. Now reminder this is for me. Results may vary as always stated. I have only thrown two newer models of Columbia, the Backyard Bully and the Action Packed. Both were drilled mild and stroking them they flat out hook. But if I turn them up (add revs) they skid and slide through the breakpoints, the results can be quite UGLY. Testing other balls, when my team mates have close to my span, is a lot of fun. Yes, occasionally they throw mine and can't make them move anything like I do. They smile when I take theirs and wreck the hole with them telling me I didn't think mine could hook like that.

Columbia does make some great balls... But I can't see anything I have thrown by them reacting like a Lane #1 I own or have thrown. But I'm willing to give it a try

I didn't mean to ask if lane 1 balls would work better, just why they would hook more. I don't think that adding a lane 1 core would make a ball inherantly stronger, especially when columbia can and has produced balls with pretty extreme numbers.
