lane 1
« on: October 18, 2003, 04:25:08 AM »
i think i found a story that relates really well to what lane 1 does.

"When Arnold Schwarzenagher first came to this country, all he had was twenty dollars in his pocket and the skill of bricklaying. The living conditions he was used to were horrendous, so he came up with a plan: underprice all the other contractors.
So Arnold went out and advertised in a local paper for himself. He went around nailing up signs and got as much information out about his business as he could. Yet, nothin was selling.
Arnold went up to one of his friends and asked, "Why am i getting no business even though my prices are much lower than everyone elses?" The friend came up with a suggestion of what to do. "Advertise yourself as a European bricklayer and charge more for your business."
Arnold went out and did just as the friend said. He found that after changin his strategy, he did not have enough time for all the requests he was getting. He learned a valuable lesson from this: it is not what product you are selling, it is how it is marketed."

I found this to be a very intriguing article that really applied to Lane 1. i no i will get labeled as a lane 1 basher but just think of this. What ball would you rather have in your hands: a ball labeled as a high end high performance ball or a ball labeled as low end price but high performance. i know people will say "ya but i try everything" but still, you are most definately biased due to price. heres an experiment for everyone: go to k-mart, look at a colared shirt. Then go to a place with polo's, and look at that. Then look at the price tag on each. i propose that we do an ultimate test. take 10 different bowling balls, all meant for the same condition, all drilled similarly. get the label taken off, and somehow make them all black. Then, take a tally of which ones everyone liked best. I doubt that any ball would come out ahead of any other in the long run. i know you all will tell me "but for me, lane 1 works better" how much better though? 2-5 pins maybe and that is a highly biased answer? i doubt it would make all that much difference to a bowler whether they were using a buzzsaaw or not.

For the tournament or pot bowler that 2-5 pins per game over a 12 game tourney could be the difference between a $2,000 check and not cashing at all.

I have found that since I started with the Lane 1 balls I have been picking up more cash in the high game jackpots and mystery doubles etc that we run here...has my average sky rocketed? no. Why not? My spare game sucks. SO the extra $$ spent on the Saws gives me the little bit extra carry and thus fewer spares.

It works for me. It doesn't work for everyone.
