Lane #1 ball for short oil pattern

To all you Lane #1 gurus! Please suggest a Lane #1
ball that I can use on short 25 to 27 foot light oil
pattern. Drilling suggestions as well. Bowling stats
is in my profile. Thank you in advance.

with the low volume of oil here... I would play my XXXL then... anything else would be suicidal.

My H2O it too aggressive. but I am sure when you drill this ball smoother... not neccessarily weaker.... - It should work.

Another possibility from the current lineup could be the evo... but I have no clue. (sorry just seen the evo is discontinued...)

you need something that stores energy without taking off of the dry.

Is the pattern oily or more dry? and do you have a drier outside ( like THS) cause the the XXXL really could be a possibility then... though the ball doesn't like any oil at all imho

Other ideas?

to add to mm2004's post a urethane would be good to help carry down some oil.  If you want lane one i'd go with a liberator, might still be a little strong, but I think it would even out the over under.

over/under on 25 ft. of oil? I was under the impression that over/under happens when a ball is having difficulty with its breakpoint due to oil in the same area. If someone's breakpoint is at 25 ft., then they should be shooting for a hook-set motion, in which case you wouldn't really run into over/under to begin with. I'm not trying to be rude, just trying to understand.

As for the original post, don't you own the XXL. And isn't it a Urethane? I would attempt to use it, and if that isn't working, then go with your XXXL or Crystal Diamond (Crystal might work a lot better if it has a bit of tracking on it, as it will hook up a bit more in the oil, giving it more power in the pocket)...just my thoughts.

PS...I have a Uranium Pearl that I got a control drilling on, and I feel that it would work wonders on what you're describing...just another idea for ya.

Of balls you can actually find right now, a Liberator polished up would sound good to me. Personally, I think you can take a G-Force Evolution and kill that shot if your speed is good enough. That's one of the best balls for dry conditions that I've found.

The XXL or even the XL would be great picks, too, as would the original XXXL. The Starburst's cover is so slick that I wouldn't recommend it unless you can rev a boulder.

Not Lane 1 but Neptune or Avalanche Pearl would both be good, lane Masters Hornet with a weak drilling.

Thanks, for all the replies. Just recently acquired
a used XXL Buzzsaw, so haven't tried it out that much
on this pattern. This ball's a 15 pounder, and I normally
use a 16 pounder, so it's a bit light for me.

My suggestion is to find one of their weaker pearl resins or urethane and drill it pin axis or semi-pin axis.

I have a Tsunami drilled 2" pin to PAP and the mass bias under the thumb. This ball is extremely controllable on a short/ light shot. You do need to watch your feet and make sure you keep the angle right as you will get minimal help on the backend with a drilling as such.

The XXL you just picked up is VERY strong for a urethane ball...even if it is a pearl.

Just a question...is this shot laid down on wood or synthetics? That could make a huge difference.

Doug, the pattern is laid out on synthetics. Which weak
pearl resin on the current Lane #1 line will fit in?
The choices that have been suggested to me are the Liberator
and the new THS.

Unfoirtunately they don't have a weak pearl resin in the line up right now.

Your best bet with the new stuff would be the 2 you have been suggested. Of course some surface prep is going to be needed as well as a good layout.

For the Liberator I'd start with a 1000 grit finish with some polish on top. If that's too much I'd go to 2000 grit and then polish. Still need more length? Go 4000. If the 4000 & polish is too long, hit the polished cover with the 4000 pad lightly just to take the shine off.

My experience with the THS is limited to my label drill but I can say that even on 3 day old lanes this ball performs well OOB.

Layout for teh average guy I'd say 5-1/2" pin to PAP with the CG somewhere near grip center. If you have a strong release, go the other way...pin near PAP and cg kicked back towards grip. Try to get a ball with specs to avoid a weighthole if you can.

I have the THS on order, but it hasn't arrived yet.
Have asked for one with 2 to 4 inch pin. I do have a strong
release. Which layout will be the best for each of
these, 2 - 3 inch pin and 3 - 4 inch pin? My PAP is
4 1/8 over and 1/2 inch down.

I'd opt for the pin near axis (about 2" off PAP) with the cg pointed back towards the thumb. a Longer pin will work best to help keep the weighthole small. Narrow and deep are your best bet in attributes for teh weighthole.

Surface? go with the regimen I stated for the Liberator.
