Lane #1 benchmark ball
« on: October 04, 2006, 02:21:07 AM »
Say you are bowling in a tourney out of town, and you have no idea what the lane conditions will be. Which ball do you trust? What is the first ball out of your bag?

For me, the Pearl Uranium gets the first call.

Yeah, based upon the Lane 1 stuff that I've thrown in recent years, the U pearl would be a good choice. I've also heard that the Tsunami is a smooth, solid benchmark choice.

it will vary from one to another

I would go with the DB first as it tells me more about the midlane and the backend

if I believe it is too much for the lane, will go to the Uranium or the cobalt

I'm old.  I'm also old school.  The first ball out for me is the Pro-Purple.  While I really like the U-Pearl, I've found that it often will be too snappy on the back to be really useful as a benchmark, while the Purple is nice and even through the whole lane.

I will cast my vote for the Tsunami also. I have had to change to a no thumb release lately until my thumb heals up. Used the Tsunami all last week and shot 627 with it. Much smoother than my Super Carbide and I know exactly where it is going. If I switch to 14lb equipment to throw no thumb, this will be the first ball I get.

One more vote for a Tsunami.  It's got a nice, smooth reaction and the color scheme makes it ideal for reading the oil pattern on the lane.

I am going to have to go with the tsunami here also, simply because when i am in the dark about a shot or house that I have never bowled on I know I can pull the TSU out and its going to let me know what I need to do. Its vary smooth and easy to read.
