Lane #1 policy reversed????
« on: September 18, 2004, 10:39:46 AM »
A few weeks ago there was such an uproar here about the pricing of the new Uranium solid. Mr. Buzzsaw himself came on and explained the policy and why the price has to be $189. Well, that didn't last long. Guess they're not selling as well as expected because they are back on e-bay for as low as $144.99 plus $18 shipping. I guess supply and demand, selling vs not selling, wins out over policy!

Where am I missing the boat .. the LITTLE guy CAN'T reduce the PROFIT because he HAS TO SELL AT THE SAME PRICE AS THE BIG GUY .. the little guy wants to sell for less profit to make sales ..

I'm through .. can't say it any clearer .. LANE 1 is fixing it so that the BOWLER can't get a cheaper price and the BIG GUY who sells MORE BALLS will make MORE MONEY and we the bowler have NO CHOICE but to give the BIG GUY the BIG BUCKS ..

I'm finished with this posting if my point is not understood or is going to be TWISTED .. so be it .. I've said what I wanted to say and have said it as best I can. To those that understand .. Thank you .. for those that don't .. (speechless)

Hi Jack, I am no longer a 100% Lane 1 person as I once was. I now throw mostly Storm with one Saw thrown in) I think that you "hit the nail on the head" about why Lane 1 has set a minimum price. I agree with your theory of what Lane 1 is doing/trying to do.

Lane #1 may have tried to do all this to protect the small guy who pays more for their equipment, but it isn't working!! Bottomline is it took just 2 weeks before several resellers said "screw that" and started selling the balls below the imposed minimum. We'll see if Lane #1 cuts off their supply or not. My bet is not, Lane #1 needs to sell their products as well.

And I don't blame the price cutters at all. I can guarantee that they're not losing money! But they are turning over their cash quickly. Makes sense to me. If they can sell 10 balls a week for $25 profit per ball that equals $250 made. At the higher price they may make $65 profit per ball but maybe only turn over 1 or 2 a week. If they are liquid enough to be able to hold onto the equipment for 5-10 weeks they'd make more money but if not I'd want the immediate turn around on investment also. And from Lane #1's point of view, do you want a distributor ordering 10 balls a week or one who orders 10 balls every 5-10 weeks. I know which one I'd favor which is why I don't think that Lane #1 will be able to do anything about the price slashing.

Guys,
I think Luvswatch has nailed it here. Just look at some ads in magazines that say "call for pricing". Reason for this is the manufacturers won't allow them to advertise prices that are below a certain amount for their product. Some also do have minimum sell prices as Lane 1 has, but trust me, I don't think it has didly to do with the "little guy" vs. the "big guy". Like you said, Lane 1 has made their money already. It has to do with Lane 1 thinking their product is the best and therefore it needs to cost more than everyone else's. I can't help but think of a company names Assos that makes cycling apparel. Their ad brags at being the most expensive, and of course the most technologically advanced as well.
A few years back there was some Columbia ball in this proshop that was much more expensive than any other ball in there. The guy told me that is the minimum price he is allowed to sell that ball for. It all comes down to the mindset that "if it is more expensive then it must be BETTER".
