Lane 1 pricing
« on: May 23, 2008, 01:32:02 PM »
for what it's worth I know alot of people complain about the price of the buzzsaws.I stoped by my pro shop to get some work done and noticed the buzzbomb was 2 bucks more then the twisted furry.I was suprised the T.F. was so much and the B.B. was IMO well priced.I might just grab one,FWIW.BTW,my second 300 was with a saw,I might start throwing them again.

$214 for a TF drilled w/inserts & slugs?  Complete with an extra helping of lubricant for easier and less painful penetration.

yah,I thought it was a bit much for a TF but not bad for the BB.if you consider the TF is about 148 on line and the BB is 185-ish.the TF is about 15 bucks to high since drilling is 50 with grips and slug.that's around 18 bucks less for the BB.I remember seeing saws go out of shops for about 300 drilled so that's a big price drop for a top of the line saw.that's when Brunswick made the covers.

BuzzBomb was probably a SEED ball direct from Lane 1. Costs the shop 20-50 dollars less for 1 ball.

MAP pricing on the Buzzbomb is $179.99.  Twisted Fury seems to be going for $145-150 on-line.

They probably both cost the shop $100-105 - maybe $120 if they get raped by their distributor.

NOOIL says pro shops have $120 mark up on a ball...

Is there any pro shop representative on here that makes that much on a ball? Is there anyone on here who makes even 1/2 of that on a ball? I am lucky if I can mark up the ball $10-20 over the cost of the ball + shipping. Some people need a reality check on this one.

Realbowler....$100-105 pro shop cost for a BuzzBomb? Not quite...you are close to being in line for the Twisted (all depends on yearly volume and size of individual order)but you are off by close to 50% for the BuzzBomb.

If I buy a single Twisted from my supplier and that's all I order it will cost me $135 plus the shipping to my shop so roughly $145. Sure I could order one on-line but what happens when I sell it to my customer and he has a problem with it? Then I have nowhere to turn. Sure I can call Brunswick and tell them I got a defective ball...they just tell me to return it to my supplier and they will handle the return. OOPS!!!

Let's face it guys....there is no SIGNIFICANT money to be made selling bowling balls anymore. The pro shop profit margin is terribly slim anymore because of this lovely thing called the Internet. The profit comes in the form of the accessories...tape, inserts, etc. But wait...there are places selling this stuff online now as well...smart bowlers are buying that stuff online as well when they buy a ball or shoes or bags. Now what happens to the local pro shop guys? Their prices have to go up even more to cover their bills. Business goes down, costs go up, shops go out of business.

To back what sixpack was saying though....My BuzzBombs are priced exactly the same as my Twisted Furys, Resurgences, Shifts, Special Agents, Total NV's and No mercy's...$205 drilled with inserts and the in house service package (available only to in-house league bowlers).

Catch Buzz...it's truly the Bomb!!!!

Isn't the BuzzBOMB price of 179.00 including shipping cost. So now add 30.00 to your Fury price and WOW POOF magic yep my math tells me 140.00 or 150.00 plus 30.00 equals 170.00 or 180.00. Look at that right in line...

Sorry pal, those prices include shipping.  I've seen the Twisted Fury as cheap as $135 shipped.

I don't think my buddy deals with Lane#1 or else I'd just call him up and ask him about his cost on the balls.

If people selling Lane#1 are making less than $20 a ball, they are getting screwed.  Even the cheapest sites have a $30-40 markup on the balls.  Take out $15-20 for shipping and they are still making $20 a ball.

Well man we did it to ourselves....I can remember when the Pearl Cherry Bomb came out. I ran several auctions (as did a few other people) on ebay and I made in excess of $50 per ball...and that was even with me paying $179 per ball.

What happened? Some people decided to go cutthroat and drop the price to whatever they had to in order to make the sale. Well, I know for a fact, some of those guys were losing $20 per ball by the time you factored in ebay and paypal fees...makes no sense but you know what? They sold the product and made themselves look good to the Lane 1 upper brass.

So now we have set pricing...although some people have found ways around that as well.

As for the pricing on other balls, it all depends on how much you sell and how big your order is. Some suppliers give free shipping with a $200 order, others it's $400. Some places it's buy 4 balls get free shipping. My supplier witht he best pricing doesn't deal with anything Ebonite...so I can't get anything from him other than Storm, RotoGrip, Visionary, Brunswick and MoRich....anything C-300, Track, Hammer or Ebo I have to get from a more expensive supplier...just my problem here in lovely upstate NY.

I stand behind my assertion that Lane 1 makes some of the best stuff in the business. Yes they cost more but if my customers are willing to spend the extra $20 (as they normally opt for the ZOne/Black Widow series of balls...you know teh $175 price point)I'll be more than willing to put a Buzzsaw in their hands.

Well, 302 you are correct in that I have sold a lot of stuff online. However, there are subtle differences between my online busines and many other's however.

My sole purpose for selling online is to promote a product I believe in that many bowlers do not have access to. It's no secret that Lane 1 does not sell to most mainstream distributors so therefore many bowlers do not have direct access to Lane #1 products.

When was the last time you saw me post new releases from any company other than Lane #1? That's right...I don't. That's because bowlers can get Storm, Brunswick, Ebonite and Hammer stuff at any proshop.

As I said though...major Internet resellers have shot every single pro shop in the foot. They buy in bulk, sell for minimal profit per item and make their money on volume sales. The more they can buy, the cheaper they get the product and the lower their price can be. This, in effect, prices the local guy right out of the market. In today's society $20 is $20 and most people do not have the foresight to ask the "what happpens if...?" questions. So they will choose to save the $20 instead of spending the extra to help keep the local guy in business.

This whole scenario is not unique to bowling. One of my favorite hobbies deals with radio control vehicles....planes, boats, cars and trucks. I even considered taking teh big step to open a radio control hobby store, since they are few and far between. I got set up with a supplier and guess what? I found out that the online guys will beat me every time. So I quickly abandoned that idea...

I still stand behind my assertion that your best service is the local pro shop, hence the reason I get really hurt when a local customer goes elsewhere or online to buy their ball and save $10.

I just provide product to some bowlers who may not have access to it at home.

I understand what your saying about the net under selling proshops, BUT the balls still have to be drilled, no ?

95% of the balls bought online are bought undrilled, so whats wrong with that ?

Flat fee = Blank drill $50 + Inserts and slug.

Is that not money in your pocket ? No handleing the balls or worrying about deliveries, customer brings you a ball and you punch it up and clear $60 dollars ?!?!?
