Well, 302 you are correct in that I have sold a lot of stuff online. However, there are subtle differences between my online busines and many other's however.
My sole purpose for selling online is to promote a product I believe in that many bowlers do not have access to. It's no secret that Lane 1 does not sell to most mainstream distributors so therefore many bowlers do not have direct access to Lane #1 products.
When was the last time you saw me post new releases from any company other than Lane #1? That's right...I don't. That's because bowlers can get Storm, Brunswick, Ebonite and Hammer stuff at any proshop.
As I said though...major Internet resellers have shot every single pro shop in the foot. They buy in bulk, sell for minimal profit per item and make their money on volume sales. The more they can buy, the cheaper they get the product and the lower their price can be. This, in effect, prices the local guy right out of the market. In today's society $20 is $20 and most people do not have the foresight to ask the "what happpens if...?" questions. So they will choose to save the $20 instead of spending the extra to help keep the local guy in business.
This whole scenario is not unique to bowling. One of my favorite hobbies deals with radio control vehicles....planes, boats, cars and trucks. I even considered taking teh big step to open a radio control hobby store, since they are few and far between. I got set up with a supplier and guess what? I found out that the online guys will beat me every time. So I quickly abandoned that idea...
I still stand behind my assertion that your best service is the local pro shop, hence the reason I get really hurt when a local customer goes elsewhere or online to buy their ball and save $10.
I just provide product to some bowlers who may not have access to it at home.
