Question for the Sawheads.
« on: May 09, 2006, 04:02:31 PM »
Ok, got a question for you guys.

I'm going to have almost a full arsenal of Roto-Grip within a week.

I live in the Syracuse area (actually, I could walk to the Lane #1 home base from school [I go to Le Moyne College]), so I think I might want to support the local guys.

...plus if I happen to bump into Richie at a center somewhere, I'd like to give him an opinion on his equipment.

So, here's the question for you folks:

What Lane #1 ball should I get as a trial?

Preferably, I'd like it to fit into an arsenal consisting of:

Roto Silver Streak SE
Roto Epic Battle
Roto RS-1

If you guys aren't familiar with those balls, there's plenty up about the SSSE and the Battle in the Roto forum, and the RS-1 is a pearlized reactive made for medium oil and skid/snap.

Chances are, I'll have the SSSE set up for skid/snap on heavier conditions than the RS-1, and the Battle drilled as an overall hook-monster.

I've been talking to a good buddy of mine and he and I have narrowed it to the Black Cherry Bomb, the H2O, and a solid Uranium.

Another other opinions, or am I decently on the mark?

Thanks a bunch guys.

If your looking for a heavy oil ball as suggested by the balls you posted about, I would say go with the Black Cherry Bomb.

The Black Cherry Bomb would be a good choice but if it is extremly heavy, The Super Carbide Bomb is the best selection, I have or had both and in my opinion the scb can handle more the the bcb, Retro

I would go with a Carbide Plus and maybe polish the cover. This will give you a nice all around ball, with the famous diamond core, giving you that pure Buzzsaw roll that Lane 1 is all about. =:^D

Based on the three you have narrowed it down to, the Solid Uranium is the most versatile over a wide variety of conditions.

Thanks for the input, folks.

As far as heavy oil, the Epic Battle will be my primary oiler.

The RS-1 is drilled medium-oil skid-snap, and the Silver Streak is going to be a more smooth-arcing medium oil.

Looking at the stats, I'm liking that Carbide Plus.  I think I might give that one a shot.

If not, I think one of you Sawheads would be happy to take it off my hands used :-D

From the choices you listed, I would go with the Solid Uranium, BUT, and you will notice I capitalized it for effect, MY personal choice would be to agree with the Carbide Plus.  The only thing I will warn you about is that it may surprise you and replace your heavy oil ball choice.  I would also recommend that you prepare yourself for a change in your arsenal, for once you have tried the power that is a Buzzsaw, you will be addicted.  I will not be surprised to see you post questions on which Saws would best replace your rotos.
