Lane #1 stuff, is it that much better?
« on: December 25, 2005, 12:41:45 AM »
I recently have been checking into the Lane #1 stuff, but it's so expensive. Is it worth the extra money to try it? Does it really get you more for your money vs. the popular companies? Online everything is about $60 - $90 more..

i was skeptical of the cost too...
so i bought 2 of them on ebay during the offseason for about ½ the price of the pro shop rate.

H2O = $109 Shipped
Uranium = $140 Shipped

ive thrown brunswick and columbia, and i still love brunswick.
but these Lane #1 balls really pack a punch when they hit to the pocket.
ive been in my league for 2 weeks now and one of my teammates is looking into getting a tsunami, after being a die hard track fan.

honestly, ive seen pins fly around like ive never seen before.
bouncing and flopping on the pin deck after a strike.

if you can wait until the offseason when bowling balls on ebay come WAYYY down, then by all means try them out, it was worth it for me to only spend a few additional dollars in the summer to try them out, instead of $100 extra.

with the cost of the high end columbia balls, or the pba elite balls, buzzsaws are great value for money !

Like Scottie said: If you are going to move up to high-end ball you are going to need to pay for a high-end ball.  This question always comes up...

I've been a Lane #1 buyer for almost a decade now and the reason is that the first Lane #1 ball I ever bought(Silver/C) moved me from a handicap player to scratch.  The last ball I bought (a used Carbide LRG) cuts through carry-down like it was dry, smashes into the pins and leaves only echoes.

Why would I buy anything else.

The Silver/C is still the most amazing ball!

I believe I got my first buzzsaw (Black C2) in either 92 or 95.  Still using it.  I've used every saw until they are completely worn out.

Are they for everyone, NOPE.  I've had a couple that just didn't work for me, had a couple that were condition specific but were deadly when that pattern showed up.

My saws seem to be more forgiving. Don't have to be quite so accurate.  Board left or right doesn't have the effect on carry that I seem to get with other brands.

Since Brunswick pours all of Lane #1 coverstocks, it's fairly safe to say that a ball driller could drill two different balls with SIMILAR coverstocks and have SIMILAR ball reactions.  It's purely preference.  The price difference is relative to the amount of money the ball makes for you.  If you have a huge night in brackets and pot games with a Lane #1 ball, that price difference is meaningless.  However, be prepared to answer plenty of questions regarding the ball.  I can't tell you how many people have come up to me in the past and ask about the type of ball I was throwing and have to go into the "tiny little company from Syracuse" speech..lol!  Merry Christmas.
