Uranium????
« on: November 21, 2004, 11:27:07 PM »
Has anyones changed after 10 games of use?  See my review below for how the ball is drilled.

Looking for an oiler in a solid resin my Pro Shop recommended this ball. My first reaction was "I am not paying $200.00-$300.00 for ANY ball". Mr.Pro shop operator assured his bottom line would be under $175.00 so I agreed to let him drill me a SAW. Now for those in the Club, I have not filled out my lifetime membership card nor have I shaved my head but the ball was nice.

Drilling and ball info: 15# Uranium Solid, drilled 4 x 3 with weight hole slightly above axis with both yellow grips and yellow thumb slug.

Bowler info: See profile

Plus items: Good hard roll with good carry and reaction from deeper inside (my request was to have it drilled to be for inside on oil).  Carry was fine and the ball retained tilt and did not burn up at all on oil. When the area I was playing (25 laydown point to 17 @ arrows) dried i could move a bit deeper but soon the shot was to dry to play that area. Switched to a Big Blue Solid after the saw left 5 consecutive corners (flat reaction/less entry angle).  Lo-RG  promotes strong roll.

Minus items:  Even with a good deal Lane 1 balls are expensive.  The ball needs oil, that is the condition the ball was bought for. When there is not enough oil it will not over hook, just roll earlier and be less reactive in back end and less carry form lessened entry angle.

Overall: Good ball-good carry. Early overall rating of 8-9 because of its need for oil thus making it very condition specific. More of a 9+ on its specific condition.

I have both the Uraniums (Original and Solid).

What do you mean by "changed"?

OK -- I understand now.

What you're alluding to is the relatively dull box cover of the Solid Uranium (SU). Personally, I was surprised at how dull it was out of the box. After drilling it up, I threw a few practice games in box condition, and quickly determined it was too dull for 95% of what I see.

At that point, I hit the SU (on the spinner) with Ebonite Matte Finish Polish, and finished it off with NeoTac Liquid Sandpaper (by hand) to take off just a hair of the shine. In this state, it can handle just about anything but an absolute flood.

If you want to keep the ball in as close to box as possible, I'd suggest after use cleaning with NeoTac Liquid Sandpaper or Khameleon Particle Sand High Tech Ball Restorer. This will keep the 'shine' from quickly building up on the cover. Additionally, I'd occasionally hit the cover with either the scotch-brite green pad (600 grit), or the grey pad (800 grit) for more extensive restoration.

If you want to keep it dull and performing, you really have to perform the above.
