Title: Lane#1 balls
Post by: Storm269 on November 15, 2008, 11:18:25 PM
Hi my buddy is wanting to try out Lane#1 balls but he wasn't sure which one will suit him best so he asked me to seek advice from the members over here.
He is a right handed stroker and his usual line of attack is straight down 7 board. His release is more forward roll.Same as me, he has fast speed with medium rev.
Some balls that he is considering are SuperNova, BuzzBomb and/or the new Agent Orange...all advice are welcome...thanks !

med-heavy?  ok
if your buddy just wants to TRY lane one, he should ask his proshop if the Distributor has any orig. G-Forces left. there getting rid of them dirt cheap. my driller got me one last month for 120 drilled, grips and slugs out the door.  thats less than what he charged me for my playmaker lol

If your talking about the regular Supernova (Red/Blue) it wont work well for a down 7 and IN shot.  I've found this ball works well if you give it allot of room and really allow it to REV up, playing a tight line with it doesn"t work well.  Agent Orange may be a bit to strong, but then again if you polish it up it might be just right..  BuzzBomb's are available at a great price right now if you don't mind getting one with white labels instead of yellow.

If you get a BuzzBomb or BuzzBomb/R, keep in mind that it needs a lot of top/finger weight before and after drilling. Especially if a person has low revs and speed in the 15 MPH range like myself.

Agent Orange should be good, but may need polishing a bit. The Chainsaw might work if the lanes are dry outside. He'll be able to stay in the dry longer allowing him to stay on his "A" game. =:^D

The Agent Orange or Buzzbomb would be great. They are both very versatile. I disagree a little with T-God as I am not so sure with the Chainsaw with his higher speed. I am a huge fan of the entire Buzzbomb line...

Do yourself the favor of getting an Agent Orange though...

We have heard quite a bit of feedback about many bowlers not matching up with the Buzzbomb, is that true ? So the Buzzbomb is the ball to play straight up 5-7 board ?

i use the buzzbomb on the same line all the time
use beans sauce , and i get a great look going straight down and in, BUT you got to shine it up otherwise it wont work

my BB is drilled stacked leverage and this combo works well for me

Allot of that was when it first came out and allot of people made the mistake of drilling it label and/or with bottom weight.  If your buying one just avoid Label and make sure you start with enough TOP so you don't run into a bottom weight issue.

When I play straight up the boards I prefer my THS @ 500+Secret Sauce if it is a house shot with friction outside, if I need more ball I use my BB/R @ oob finish, or you can knock the polish off the THS, say something around 2000ab. and I stay up the back of the ball and not 'hit it' as much. My pin down Buzzbomb is just way too much so I reserve it for truly heavy oil, but a pin up polished Buzzbomb may work, hmm I think I may have to try this.

If he is playing straight up the boards, I would recommend the THS Teal or Supernova XP.  Both are smooth rolling and easy for control.  I am also a heavy forward roll with med-med hi revs.  I am able to play multiple angles and have good control.

G-Force Nebula if you can find one. Great for playing up the boards on heavier mediums. Smooth as butter!

I have Nebula's

But.....

I have found that most bowlers will have better luck with a cg out layout with the Buzzbomb core...

I have been testing a layout on Lane"1 balls that really works great for me. I am 100% happy with the results. I am just trying to figure out why it does what it does...

I will post when I figure it out.

Thanks for the replies....he is deciding between this 2 balls now the  Buzzbomb or the Agent Orange. One question is as the AO is a pearlized ball and with his fast speed, will it just skid past the breakpoint like most of his pearlized ball ?

Personally, I don't match up well with the Buzzbomb.  I think it is a great ball, but I can't quite figure out what I want to do with it yet.  It has the oob finish on it and the drilling is pin just right of middle finger.  It just doesn't pick up roll off my hand like my Vertigo or any of the other 12 balls I have.  Ball hits like a truck though.

The AO is very strong cover that comes 500 grit...

It will actually outhook the Buzzbomb out of the box..

Fixed for the poor guy throwing up the 7 board on a THS
Label layouts always worked for me when playing up the boards.
As for which ball, it just depends on two variables...how much oil is really out there, and how much hand do you get in the ball. A true stroker should have no problem getting a THS Retro to the hole. A fluffer will need something a bit stronger. A Buzzbomb would work here. Be ready to adjust the coverstock to suit your needs.
