Liberator mini review

Liberator: Pin above ring 5" from pap, CG kicked right and no balance hole

Players stats are in my profile

CONTROL:  The Liberator is all about control.  This ball will not overreact on dry backends.  However, if the mids are completely toast, the ball may check up early but is still very controllable on light oil and super dry backends.

HOOK:  The Liberator can hook a ton depending on the conditions.  This is a condition specific ball.  Oil is this ball's kryptonite.  If carry down ir present this ball will slide.  It needs dry boards to finish.  Now the dry boards can be outside on your THS or down lane on the more difficult patterns.  This ball will allow someone to square up on a THS and play close to the oil/dry line.

HIT:  I was not surprised by the hit and carry of this ball.  I have a scout high flare urethane that hit's very hard and carry's xtremely great.  The Liberator is no different in that respect.  On the correct conditions this ball will crush the racks and offer excellent carry!

READING THE LANES:  The LIBERATOR can be used to read lanes.  This ball will show where the dry is.  If this ball hit's dry it will react.  If it hit's oil it's going to slide.  I'm not saying this is THE type of ball to read lanes with but it can be used for that purpose.

SUMMARY:  The Liberator can be used on more conditions than I orginally thought.  As long as theirs dry boards on the lane this ball can be used.  This ball can be used on any walled up house patterns that still have a little bit of head oil.  It will allow  bowlers to square up on almost any condition that has a good amount of dry.

I got a chance to use this ball on a fresh 42' pattern that had heavier oil outside, not a walled up pattern.  The reactive ball I was using on this pattern would just jump once it came out of the oil.  I would imagine the buff on this pattern was short.  This made it hard to control the break point.  I grabbed my Liberator and had good success.  The Liberator would come out of the oil at the end of the pattern and just arc to the pocket.  I was playing in between the 2nd and 3rd arrow with no swing.  So my accuracy and ball speed needed to be good on this pattern using the Liberator but it allowed me to square up and not worry about jumping thru the nose!

Is this a dry lane ball?  In my opinion it is.  It's going to offer a lot of hook on really dry lanes.  This is not a plastic ball that's going to allow one to play really straight on dry.  However, it's a good ball if your looking for control on overreacting conditions!

This is a great ball to have if you bowl in tourney's.  Lane #1 did a great job coming out with this ball.  It's a lot of fun to roll on the correct pattern.

Ya, i hear ya. It is a hard toss up between it and the buzzbomb on favorite ball at the moment. When I pull either one of those balls out I gain alot of confidence.

How good is this ball on dry lanes compared to say a weak solid reactive? I purchased a jolt pearl for dryer lanes, and even after putting some surface on it it still overracts to the dry. The only time this ball is playable is if there is short oil, so the ball can burn up. Really looking for archy type ball on broken down/dryer patterns.

Heres my take on your question. I bought this ball for drier lanes. OOB it checks up to early, tried it on a drier lane the first night and went half way and started checking, thought ok, maybe this is stronger than I thought.

Went home and put it on the spinner, took it to 2000 then hit it with some of Beans polish. Now I can play on multiple lane condition, light oiled lanes or broken down lanes that are hard to control it is great now. putting the polish on it made it a whole new ball in my opinion. So if you are buying it for drier over reacting lanes then take it a little higher in grit and throw a good polish on it and you will be fine.

Note: When polishing this ball it seems like it isn't polishing, just looking like a sheen finish, but from what i have found it still works as though you have a good polish on it. 2 to 3 coats and it will starts mirroring up.

From my exprerience, urethanes are harder to get polished.

I was wondering, because I was thinking about a blue vibe for shotty lanes. This ball might be a better choice.

Have no personal experience with the blue Vibe, but from what i have read it is stronger than it is made out to be. Heck I saw a post in the Hammer forum about someone dulling it and using it for heavy oil.

my suggestion for a ball for spotty inconsistent lanes is, Liberator, or a Lanemaster's Buzz, have had good success with it to. Just my 2 cents.

The Blue Vibe is an awesome ball for almost any type of lane condition if the correct cover prep is used.  Is this a better choice for you than the Liberator?  I'm not really sure because it depends on what type of patterns your really wanting to use the ball on.

The Liberator has a strong mid-lane if the lanes don't have a lot of oil.  This ball also doesn't have any backend snap.  Buddies pro shop made a very good vid of this ball in action.  In the vid he's using the Liberator on a THS.  In the vid he rolls a series of shots, both tight and wide.  On the shots that are tight the ball is staying in the oil and hit's dry at the backend.  On the shots that are wide he get's the ball into the dry boards outside before the backend.  On the tight shots the ball doesn't have much recovery because it's in the oil longer but doesn't over-react when it comes out of the end of the pattern.  On the wide shots the ball grabs much better when it hit's the friction outside but once again doesn't over-react.  That's what your going to get from the Liberator!

Sounds like it might be a good choice then for what I am looking for. Typical dry lane balls are usually too over/under as the lanes transition. This is the problem I have with my jolt pearl. Its a great ball on the right conditions, but as long as there is backend on the lane, it usually is too strong.

Just had my Liberator resurfaced at 4000 grit. OOB was way early. Hooked more than expected.

Will be "tossing it" Wednesday.
