I have had my Vertex 1/2 HP spinner about a month. It is perfect for a personal model. It sands and polishes well. Buddies Pro Shop at 229.95 shipped is the best I could find. It comes with great instructions. You will be changing the surface of your arsenal right away.

1/2HP Vertex from Buddies for $230 shipped is about the best deal going right now.  Not many show up used, so it's tough to save money on a used one.  For personal use, it's a fine machine, you don't need two speeds.

SHHHH, you might wake Brandon. Take the advise you have been given, the Vertex is one of the best personal spinners available.

Yea, I use the Donkee 3/4 HP, 2-speed model. I've had it for about 4 years. Despite all the abuse Donkee spinners take on these boards, I like mine. I have it secure on my workbench, and the minimal viration has not been an issue.

The Vertex spinners have a very good reputation, but whatever you get, make sure it's a 2-speed model. The higher speed is really a benefit when burning in polish and for generating heat during regular cleaning. If you settle for a 1-speed, you're short changing your purchase.

I have the single speed 1/2hp Vertex, and I can get the ball/polish hot enough where it burns my hands. I don't think you need more heat than that.

I've had my 1/2 HP Vertex for 5 years and have had no problems with it. You don't have to bolt the Vertex down as it won't jump off the bench, table, etc. like a Donkey does unless you bolt the Donkey down as Steven mentioned.

Of course you can get by with one speed. At the shop, I'll occationally use the 1-speed for convenience and it works fine. But if you think about it, the optimal speed for sanding is less than the optimal for polishing/cleaning. So for your primary spinner, why compromise and settle for less?

I used to haul lumber in my Toyota Tercel, but it was a whole lot more efficient (and less painful) when I got a truck.

If you want to spend the cash...

The Innovative 2-Speed is a commercial grade spinner.  $550+shipping I think.

I have mine in a moderate traffic shop for 10 years and I had to replace the rubber ring on the bowl once...

Worth the money..
