It's legal IF it didn't come polished from the factory.

Yes they are perfectly legal, and no other lane#1 ball is even close to the SCB.

Yeah, it would look the same. It was a stupid compromise that tried to save face for the USBC. Everyone knows they blew it in pursuing it. They're idiots! Lane #1 busted them on it.

I've heard from my pro shop guy that the Polished version is legal if you get the 16lb. Because the RG is different or something. Is this true? Cuz he just sold like 4 of these Polished version, and I was thinking about getting one.

Weight has nothing to do with it. The USBC made an ignorant statement saying that factory-polished SCBs had to be resubmitted for approval. Thiss was wrong sicne the only thing that changed was that the cover was polished and the ball was already still in production in the original sanded. The USBC got caught with their pants down and compromised a solution with Lane#1 to save face.

Basically, Lane 1 tried to have their cake and eat it too...they marketed a polished version of the SCB as a "new" ball, but didn't register this "new" ball with the USBC, so the USBC called them on it. Since this "new" ball was "created" after the deadline for the core diff regulation change, it was not grandfathered in as the non-polished original SCB was. Then Lane 1's argument was that it wasn't a new ball, even though they marketed it to their customers that way! Wonderful company!

If Lane 1 hadn't marketed it as a new and different ball, it would have been grandfathered in. Lane 1 didn't follow the rules, and as a result, they as a company and the customers who patronize them were burned. Don't blame the USBC for enforcing its own rules!

Not that it matters now, cuz you can get both versions and nobody can tell the difference between the dull and the slightly polished one. well, at least I can't.

rc1216, I think you are correct. I used the 2000 grit abralon pad on my SCB, then polished it with 3m rubbing compound. I'm sure the only reason the USBC made lane one recall the polished balls was to save face.

How much is your pro shop selling the SCB?? I was quoted $240.00 from my pro shop guy. Is that consider expensive? (Well for Lane #1.) I'm starting to feel like the guys ripping me off.

Simple fix if you want both, just buy 2 SCBs, then sand/polish one, and keep one dull.  When asked if this was a Polished SCB, the answer is, "no, I bought the SCB, and had my pro shop sand/polish one.  After all, there is no such thing as a purchased Polished SCB, only the dull SCB, then self polished."  Duh!!!  Any qiestions USBC!!

rc, to answer your question about the cost of the SCB, $240 sounds reasonable. You can buy them for about $175 to $180 plus shipping, plus drilling, so it probably would come out about the same.
