How contollable is the Massacre, really?
« on: May 06, 2009, 08:45:10 AM »
On top of me not matching up particularly well with the Bomb cores (which the core in the Massacre mimics), throw in the coverstock on this ball and it sounds like an angular animal.

There is controllable angular, and then there is uncontrollable angular. How likely is this ball to have an inconsistent breakpoint, etc.?

I'm changing jobs within the next month and money is about to be tighter than it's ever been for me, so I have to get more discriminating with my ball purchases. I don't want to buy a Massacre and not be able to use it -- or have it mimic something I already own.

I am not saying it is a bad ball either, I just have not found it to be "snappy" at all, for me it is a good "archy" med/light to light oil ball. Now my new Golden Nugget is a different story, goes long and "SNAP".

Jess I told you that I would give you more feedback after I had time to throw the Massacre during league.  I have thrown this on both a THS and on the Cheetah pattern.  I had my best success on Cheetah pattern starting at the 5 board and staying behind the ball and migrating into to the 10 board.  I found the control to be good, I had an occasional shot get away from me when I would get around the side of the ball.  As long as I did not try to get to much hand in the ball it made a nice move to the pocket.  I actually shot a clean 227 on the Cheetah with it the best game of the 12 that I have shot on this pattern.  I am very impressed with it as a ball and am looking forward to using it on other patterns.  Good luck with your decision.

Well I guess I have finally found the right surface to get this ball to snap some, I sanded it down to 360ab, then hit it with Resurrection, then Snakeoil using medium pressure. I tried several different grits and polish combinations before coming up with this one. The ball is controllable and has that snap others have experienced. I have been told by several of the guys that I bowl with that it took several games before it "came to life", maybe I was just too impatient with it early on. I would say it is stronger on the backend than my Dirtybomb with all things being equal. I hope this helps a little.

Thanks for the feedback. I'll probably snag one sometime later this summer.
