My thoughts on the Uranium
« on: March 16, 2004, 12:39:58 PM »
I have had this ball for about a month now.  Came with a 3-4 inch pin and I can't remember how much top weight right now.  15 lbs.  Had it drilled with the pin above the ring finger and the CG kicked out ever so slightly.  I figured I would keep it simple with the drilling and let the ball do the work...and it has.

Let me first say that I can't believe anyone can throw this ball on dry lanes.  I have found that I have to chase the head oil all night to keep it working.  Our house shot is about 6 to 6, 32', buffed to about 36', clean back ends.  Not sure about units of oil, but I figure its a fair amount because carrydown is very evident by the end of the first game.  Lanes are synthetic with Guardian that needs some fixin.

With some head oil, it is very clean, as most balls are.  It reads the mids wonderfully, and where it really starts to work.  The roll on the ball is very strong, not skid flippy like for some I have read on here.  The move is hard to describe, as it is unlike any other ball I have thrown.  Ya know how the Inferno has a different roll to it?  It is like that, but different still.

I have struggled all year with other equipment, including the Inferno.  Quite a few 6's, but no 7's.  I'm not gonna blame the balls, because I know I just hadn't executed until I got the Uranium.  After about 8 or 9 sets with it, I have had 4 700's, and my 2nd sanctioned 300 tonight.  I really can't say enough good things about it.  It is incredibly readable, and the hit for me has been the best of any ball I have ever owned, except for maybe the Granite Gargoyle, which I absolutely loved.  I really do seem to match up very well with this core/cover.  Maybe one of these days I'll have the nerve to post a video of it.

::Update::

   It has now been 2 weeks since this post, and the high scores just keep coming.  A week after that post, I shot another sanctioned 300 in the same league the next week.  736 for the set.  I was told by a few people that if I was to shoot another 300 in that league the next week, it would be a new ABC record for consecutive weeks.  Well that was this past tuesday, and I didn't do it.  Lanes were quite a bit dryer than normal, and after 2 practice balls with the Uranium, I bagged it.  It was hooking at the arrows.  For once I wasn't stubborn and I switched to my Inferno.  Played the same line with a touch more speed and came out with another 736.  I have been shooting lights-out the last few weeks, and apparently have a chance to qualify for the local all-star tournament.  This would be a huge accomplishment for me.  I have to give all the credit to the Uranium.  It doesn't throw itself, but it gave me something that I've never had in bowling-Confidence.
