never had a Lane # 1 ball
« on: November 01, 2015, 08:04:30 AM »
Never had one, never saw one thrown. Nobody in my area has one or uses them. I know they are not PBA approved but are they just over priced and this is why nobody uses them here? Does Storm pour the covers? Ive been interested in them but never "pulled the string" to get it. I'm looking at the pro V and Typhoon pearl but these balls are over a year old already and other companies technology has grown over the last year...So why would I get one of these over one of the bigger companies?

I feel they used to be better than the competition back then compared to how they are now.  I think the diamond core still has wheels in bowling world...like the hyroad still does too, they both work.

$300 for a ball is crazy...and it will make them no better than elite is now.  They went back to lower price points.

I think you'd be better offbl trying visionary or legends (thick covers) if you wanna get exotic.

Storm may pour the difference... Idk about the pro v.  Id check the serial number and the box.  I bought some from a smaller company than most haven't tried either... (I could sell you 2 for 1 pricing..got a few left). Some have storm boxes and serials, some have San Antonio boxes and serials...
In the bag [Infinite Physix, Volatility Torque, Night Road, Phaze III, Burner Solid, Hustle AU]

Back in the day when Brunswick made the covers for Lane 1, the Lane 1 balls with their Diamond Cores were some of the better balls available. When Brunswick quit pouring the covers plus other companies began producing cores every bit as good and better than the old diamond core, the popularity of Lane 1 balls along with their overly high prices, "went south" and continues to do so.

I fully agree with this.  My PSO was actually throwing some of their balls for a while as a staffer and liked what they have.  However, nobody would buy based on the high price points.  When you have a ball costing around $300 or north of it, the bottom line is that other companies have products as good as or better for less money.

If I were part of Lane #1, I would seriously evaluate the price points and then evaluate the entire line.  As part of that, I would drop the price points across the entire line and then look to evolve some of the core/covers that are currently used.  Maybe create some new diamond cores or improve some of the other cores that have been used.

I'd easily pay their current asking prices , and probably more IF AND ONLY IF they had Brunswick re-make some of their original balls, like the Silver Diamond, Golden Nugget, the Uranium series, the Bullet, Purple Pro Buzzsaw (possibly the best particle ball ever made) and the Raspberry Buzzsaw.

But, "you can't go home again". Pity.

I  had several good Brunswick made  Lane 1 balls with the 3 that stood out for me best were ... my all time favorite "Solid Cobalt Bomb" with a close second "Black Cherry Bomb" followed by the "Emerald with the C-2 core" and "Blueberry" behind the Emerald.

I did have one and one only that stood out that wasn't made by Brunswick and that was the "Blue Death"

As others have said, Lane 1's popularity and following was MUCH higher during the Brunswick days. I owned a ton of Lane 1 stuff back then, and most of it was pretty good if you could get past the high prices. Once Brunswick stopped pouring for them, a lot of the mystique was gone, and I'm not sure they'll ever get it back. That isn't to say that they haven't had some nice bowling balls in the years that have followed, but that cult-like following seems to have been lost.

The current equipment from Lane#1 is awesome. I have been focusing on the CrankR, Dart and the new Hybrid Difference. These three go well with each other. If you are wanting to try a Lane#1 ball, let me know what style of bowler you are and I can help you decide on which one. Then we can talk about the Layout and static weights. we can use the GBS (Gravity Balance System) to maximize your balls performance, carry and consistent roll.

Let me know how I can help and that goes for anyone else. I will be glad to help anyone.

you can reach me at kevin@lane1bowling.com

everyone have a great rest of the week. oh and Lane#1 is about to release another ball this month or early next month. follow us on facebook. lane#1 bowling

You might be right, but bowlers have been predicting the death of Lane#1 for as long as Ballreviews has been in existence. So far, betting against Richie hasn't produced a winning ticket.
