New 15 lb Lane #1 Agent Orange
« on: April 02, 2009, 03:13:11 AM »
I just got back into bowling this season after 13 years.  I started off using my 16 lb Speedzone but it kept passing the headpin so I changed to my 15 lb Danger Zone.  The way the lanes are set up it is better to play the inside.  I like to play the second arrow.  Last week I bought a 15 lb Lane #1 Agent Orange.  I was told by the proshop that this would be good for the lane conditions.  I new going into it that I was going to have to change the type of ball that I threw.  I have thrown a couple of solid strikes with the AO but feel a little uncomfortable throwing it.  I would like to be able to hit the pocket a little more consistently.

Does anyone have any suggestions since I am trying to throw more of a hook shot?

i would suggest you get a coach and get some lessons

you could get 3-4 lessons for the price of a new ball, and would help you immensely more than a new ball

Practice, practice practice, it will take time to get used to throwing that way. I am actually currently going the other way Im really working at bringing the speed up for when I need it and to play up the right side(near the gutter) is very hard for me to get the hang of, just wheel it out there and find a line you like. Also remember a few things moving inside on a THS will give you much more room then you are used to BUT when you do miss in the wrong ways you will leave a lot more splits IMO.

well if you already " know " how to bowl then why did you ask your question ?

if you knew how to bowl already then finding the pocket wouldnt be a big deal

the best players in the world all have coaches, and would not be great unless they had help along the way i.e coaching and lessons

chalk up another hijacked thread from inverted 1

honestly get over yourself

oh wait better be careful you might come beat me up
and have your kids beat up my kids like you said in your other figjam threat thread

Wait...

Isn't that the claim made by lane#1??

Inverted: Please, be reasonable. You know that a certain amount of base skill is required before some of the Lane#1 magic kicks in. You struggled with this phenomena yourself. The author is learning to bowl again after 13 years away. Give him a break.

After some lessons and experience getting back in the game, he should be able to raise his average by 10 pins because it carries pins 20% better than with any other ball on the market. We've discussed this many times.

Hope this helps.

Can you give us a little more information about what's going on when you're struggling? Is the ball hitting flat, or over-reacting, or just not carrying when it gets to the pocket?

Your answers will determine your needed adjustments, whether it's where you stand, what your target is or if you need to alter the surface of the ball.

I don't know..I never did find the magic or mojo with Lane#1 balls and I'm pretty sure I know how to bowl.

So now it takes a certain skill level to achieve the magic? Whoa..I'm screwed

Inverted: No offense intended. I just remember you confessing some shortcomings to Beans in a thread many moons ago. If I'm mistaken, I apologize.

Kdimera,
Since you're getting back into bowling after such a long break, I'd also suggest lessons. Also, with such a long layoff, I'm hoping the driller re-measured your PAP before drilling your Agent Orange. Such a strong ball not drilled to your measurements might not be working correctly.
If you're anywhere near Las Vegas, I'd suggest Mike Jasnau at the Gold Coast. I was in Vegas recently for Nationals and took a lesson from him while there. Well worth the time and money you'd invest.

It seems even if I hit the same mark on the boards I get very different results.  I am sure it is the way I am throwing it.  I am trying to get it to go from the middle out to the left and back in.  I need to adjust to doing this because my danger zone I threw it down the second arrow and it hooked into the pocket.
